Facebook page not displaying in the search results

Facebook page not showing in search results

Facebook pages are extremely important to both large and small businesses. They are a great way of interacting with your target audience and making them aware of any new products or services that you offer. The last thing you would want, is your page to not be displaying in the search results on Facebook.

If your Facebook page isn’t showing up in the search results on Facebook, this post is for you.

Identifying the problem

The first thing you need to do is locate your page. This is because your page is most likely showing up, however not in the place you would expect.

1. Go to Facebook

2. Using the search bar, type in the name of your page

3. Click on “See more results for ____” where the blank is your page name

4. Click on ‘Pages’ in the left menu

Your page should be on this list, it might not be the first couple of results so scroll down a little. To get to the first results you need to take a look at what you are posting. Take a look at these Facebook post guidelines to give you some idea of the type of content you need to post.

If your page isn’t in this list:

5. Click on ‘Places’ in the left menu

If you didn’t see your page under ‘Pages’ your Facebook page has most likely been changed to a ‘Place’.

It does this based on the information you have entered before you create your page, and if anyone has ‘checked in’ to the address you entered in your page’s basic information.

Finally, if the page hasn’t shown up when following all the above steps, it is likely a setting within your page is incorrect.

The solution

There are three possible solutions, all of which should be completed:

The first is to claim your Facebook page:

1. Go to your Facebook page

2. Click the ‘Do you know the owner?’ which can be found in the settings (cog at the top right)

This link is only appearing because your Facebook page is displaying as a Place in the search.

3. In the popup, enter the email address, or the Facebook name of the owner of the page

This should send an email to the account, notifying them how they can claim their page.

If you can see the ‘Is this your business?’ link in the same place, I would also recommend verifying that you are the owner.

The second is to change your page category:

1. Go to your Facebook page

2. Click on Manage > ‘Edit page’

3. Click on ‘Basic information’

4. In the ‘Category’ selector, choose any other than ‘Local businesses & places’

5. Click ‘Save changes’

This should change your page from a ‘Place’ to a ‘Page’

Finally, you need to check your settings

1. Go to your page

2. Click on ‘Edit page’

3. Click on ‘Manage permissions’

4. Make sure the ‘Country restrictions’ box is empty

Facebook page country permissions

If this has a value, you could be hiding your page from a country without meaning to.

The above steps won’t update straight away, however if you check again tomorrow, it should now be displaying in the search results under ‘Pages’.

If you have an alternative method, or if you found any of these techniques worked for you then do let others know by using the comments below.

Hi – I am having this problem and have tried your suggestions but my page still does not show in search results. I have checked through all of the options and cannot see any reason why it would not show. It doesn’t show at all. Facebook says there is a known issue but don’t offer any help on resolving it. Any ideas? Thanks.

    • Hi Mctns.  When you go to your page, do you see a ‘were here’ option (under the ‘talking about this’ and the ‘like this’ numbers)?

If so, your page is registered as a place. If the above methods didn’t work, there is one more option:

You need to create another page with the same name and exactly the same address details. You can then merge the two pages together, however the page with the lower amount of likes will get merged into the one with more. You merge by going to edit page > Resources. You should see a link in there.

Take a look here at Facebooks documentation on merging – http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=249601088403018

      I hope that helps!

      • Vanessa

I had the same problem, my facebook page wouldnt show up in the facebook search results.
After 3 weeks of waiting, I tried everything. Then i unpublished my page, then re-published it straight away. Then instantly my page was available to the public in facebook search. Must be a bug. Hope that helps people, incase this happens to you…

        • Nishant

Thanks a lot. It worked for me as well. struggled for so many days to resolve it. finally it got resolved! 🙂

        • Susan

Hi I think I need to do this but does it mean you lose all your likes?? I hope not! Please let me know

          • Pam

            Did you lose your likes?

          • Ashley

No, by unpublishing and re-publishing you will not lose your likes.

        • Tracey

Yes! This worked for me too, unpublish then publish again, worked!! Thank you!

          • WOW at last thanks so much, I did exactly what is said above and it worked instantly, and you keep all your like, thanks very much xxx

        • Kemi

Thanks, Vanessa! You’re a genius! After hours of struggling to figure it out, your unpublish/publish solution worked instantaneously like magic! Thanks so much!

      • Hay

        Hi Mctns,
i used to do that as you advised but the result is (you have no other faceboo page to merge)

Hi Sam – thank you for the helpful post.
The Missouri Arts Council has a Page that has gotten categorized as a Place. As the Council’s public information coordinator, I’d like to make it just a Page. We don’t need the Place functions, as our address is just our office. And sometimes our Page does not show up in Facebook’s Search function unless I click on “Places” in the left menu. Though sometimes it does….weird. Anyway, questions:
    1) I have followed Steps 2 & 3, but can’t follow Step 1 because I cannot find that “do you know the owner?” link. On the Timeline layout, I have scrolled all the way down to the bottom—the “founded” date—and there is nothing in the left-hand corner.
    2) If I’m correctly understanding the tip your response to Mctns, if I create a new Page and try to merge the two, the new Page will have no Likes, so it will merge into the Page that’s been categorized as a Place. So I don’t see how this will solve the issue.

    • Hi Barbara, Thank you for reading 🙂

I have just done a search for your page, it is displaying under pages assuming I found the right one (currently 102 like it?).

However in regards to your questions:

      1) The post was originally created when the pages weren’t in the timeline view, I shall update it soon. However the ‘do you know the owner?’ link has now been moved into the settings (cog in the top right). If you click that you should see the link, there is also a ‘is this your business?’ link. I would recommend filling that in too.

      2) In your case it won’t solve the issue, which is why I haven’t added it into the post. If you can get the page to have more than 102 likes, then it would merge as a page. It’s a very frustrating feature of Facebooks I’m afraid.

      I hope that helps!

  • Deborah Robertson

Hi there, I am having the same problem – I set up a page for Port Brae Wealth Management Ltd, and it is not showing up when I search for it?  Can you help?

    • Hi Deborah, I have just done a search for ‘Port Brae Wealth Management’ – No LTD – and I found two pages, one with 5 likes and one with 0. This may have only appeared as I found the page through your profile so I have visited it. However I would suggest that you get the like count to above 30 as Facebook doesn’t take much notice of pages with lower like counts.
      I hope that helps!

P.S. I liked your page to help you on your way 🙂

  • Katie A

Hi! Thanks for starting this thread, I’m hoping you can help me, too!  I recently switched the “St.Michael-Albertville Women of Today” page from a profile to a page.  Everything went as expected, and we were able to convert all of our “friends” to “likes”, however, when we search for our page, it doesn’t come up on pages or places.  Those who were friends and now “like” it, can see it in their newsfeed if we post something, and they can click on it and then  see our page, but that’s the only way they can find the page.  It doesn’t come up if they, or anyone, search for it.  I have tried all of your steps, to no avail.  What can I do?

    • Hi Katie, thank you for commenting.

I’m not able to find it either. Sometimes creating a Username for your page can help, to do this go to your page, Click ‘Manage’ > ‘Edit page’ at the top, then click ‘Basic information’ and click the link that says something like ‘Add a username’.

Facebook’s search isn’t the greatest, however I have noticed it favours the pages that have more likes, and lot’s of content on the ‘Basic information’ part of your page.

If your still having trouble, send me a link and I will see if I can spot anything else.

      • I am literally having the same issue. The worst part is, the page was searchable and now is not. I have set a username and tried everything above. http://www.facebook.com/NAPSandRoadmaps It only works if I give people a direct link or they click on the facebook button on my blog.

        • Hey Facebook User! Great to see you here.

I have some good news for you – I just searched for your page using “NAPS roadmaps” and you are the top (and only) result! So you are appearing in the search results.

          Thanks for commenting 🙂

  • Coordinationfsc

I have an interesting dilemma: I manage an NGO facebook “Fundación Sobrevivencia Cofán” and it doesn’t show up in a facebook search if you omit the accent mark and just type “cofan,” which I imagine many people do. I don’t know what to do, and it’s too late to change the title. any insights or solutions?

    • Hi Coordinationfsc, thank you for commenting! – I just did a quick search for your page and found it no problem. That’s both with and without the accent marks. Therefore my advice would be to not worry, and carry on as you are 🙂

  • Cosmin

Does anybody knows why when i start typing in search box as page some results appear, but after i press show more results, there’s nothing to show. No one result for people, for pages, only for places. My page is set as category company. Thanks for answer!

  • Fi

I am suffering from the same dilemma. I am an admin for a small clothing label called Alex & Vera and it is not coming up on the search engine. People who “like” my page can find it, although without me sending a link nobody else can find it. Can anyone suggest anything?

    • Hi Fi, thank you for commenting! I am able to find your page in the dropdown list by typing ‘Alex & Vera’. You don’t show for the term ‘Alex and Vera’, however you appear in the list when I press ‘See results for Alex and Vera’.

      I hope that helps!

  • Fi

Your fantastic and very prompt! Thank you kindly Sam!

  • Tracey Walsh

    Hi Sam
I am… guess what also having trouble finding my page.  If I direct someone to it through their facebook account no problem, they can go straight to it.  However, if someone is trying to find it just through their search engine it doesn’t come up????  The username is Tracey Walsh. Marriage Celebrant.  I have gone back through all my settings and I can’t see what I have done wrong….Hope you can help…and thanks in advance.

    •  Hi Tracey, thanks for commenting!

When you say search engine, do you mean Facebooks? or Google and others?

If it’s Googles, the easiest way to get Google to index your page is to link to your Facebook page from your website or various other places on the internet (e.g. blog comments). You will also need to make sure that you don’t have age restrictions or country restrictions in your page admin. Google is slow to crawl Facebook pages, so it’s normally a waiting game.

      I hope that helps!

      • Tracey Walsh

        Hi Sam
Thanks for your prompt response, yes I did mean Google.  I don’t have a website but I do have a couple of related clips on you tube.  Can I link my page through them?  I guess it really is just a matter of building up my page and being patient right?
Once again thanks so much .

        • Adding them to your YouTube account may help you get more followers, but it uses nofollow links, which means that the Google bots won’t follow the link to your page. Therefore it still won’t get indexed.

Try commenting on some popular blog posts, and enter your pages URL into the URL field. This will then create a link from that website to your page (which Google can follow!).

I will make a new post on Monday about this topic as lot’s of people are struggling with it – as you can see by the number of comments!

But your right, by building your page, everything will fall into place (including Facebooks search)

  • Grantbalemi

    Hi Sam,

Im having problems with our facebook business page ‘La Bella Beauty Retreat’. When its searched by other people it doesnt come up in the search results. However when my wife and I search it, it does? Very strange..Also my wifes old work is coming up, instead of her new one (La Bella) and again it shows to us as normal but not to others. Shes taken off her old work positions and now nothing is showing under her info. Its no wonder people havent been finding our page! Help! 🙂

    •   Hi Grant, thanks for commenting!

The reason you can see your page and others can’t is because you have
liked the page. Lot’s of people don’t realise their page isn’t in the
search because they (the admin) can see it.

I can’t either of the page’s that you mentioned, could you please send me a link and I will see if I can spot anything.

In most cases, it’s just a matter of building your ‘likes’ and
promoting your page outside of Facebook – However check in your page
admin that you don’t have a country or age restriction.

      I hope that helps!

      • Grantbalemi

Hi Sam, thanks for checking into it. The facebook address is facebook.com/labella.beauty.retreat. I even went to our website labellasalon.com.au and tried to link from ‘like us’ module on the front page and it just goes to facebook home, not the page.

Im wondering if facebook may be penalizing us because I hired a guy to work on our page and he generated a few hundred likes by using a program which I never wanted him to do! It seems really strange that my wifes current job status isnt displaying on her personal page as well. We can see it when logged in, but others cant..Ill have a look into the country and age restrictions to make sure

        Thanks for your help!

        • Hi Grant,

This re-direct normally happens because of a country or age restriction. Make sure that everything is un-ticked and the fields are left empty.

Take a look at this article to help: http://daveworks.net/web-design-development-tips/social-networking/facebook-social-networking/facebook-business-page-redirects-to-facebooks-homepage/

I don’t think the extra likes will have an effect on this – that’s more a lack of engagement issue that you will face in the future.

The job title could be due to a privacy setting on her account. Check that job title is set to public – not friends of friends or equivalent.

    • Gilan Kamal

I have the same problem when non fans search for the page, can you please check if there is anything you can spot there too, also if the name is too long could that be an issue?

  • eli

    Hey Sam!

Have the same problem–converted personal page to a band page and it wont show up in searches (facebook or google). Friends who were switched to “likes” can still see it but otherwise it doesn’t show.

The page is called Eli Cook.

I changed the username and all that… http://www.facebook.com/elicookmusic

Wrote to facebook multiple times and still have not heard back.

    Think you could help?

    • Hi Eli, great to see you here!

I have just done a search for your page, your not showing in the drop down, however if you click the ‘See more results’ link at the bottom, then click ‘Pages’, you appear in that list (I did this search before visiting your page).

I have just created a post on how to move up the list on Google and Facebook, take a look here – http://www.stuffedweb.com/how-to-get-your-facebook-page-higher-in-google-and-facebook-search/ – You will hopefully find it useful.

      Hope that helps!

  • Rachel

    Hey Sam,
So I’m (obviously) having the same problem as most of the people here… I have recently created a Facebook Page for the shore-town business I am working with right now “Madame’s Port”. No matter how you search for it on Facebook it never shows up. A “places” page that we did not create shows up, but the “Official” one does not.

The Places page (that shows up) has 6 likes, 5 talking about it, and 8 “were here”.
The new Official page (that does not show up in search) has 12 likes, 10 talking about this and 0 “were here”.

So I have two questions for you, first of all, if I merge the Places page that can be found with the Pages page that can’t be found, will that make the the “un-searchable Page” searchable? Secondly, if not, what do you suggest I do? We created the page so that the business could generate more, well, business, something that won’t happen if no one else can find it. (the likes on the unsearchable Page came mostly from people I sent messages to saying “please like my works new Page”)

If you can’t find it in the search bar (which I’m going to assume you won’t be able to) the address is: http://www.facebook.com/MadamesPortCapeMay

If you could help (and get back to me as soon as possible, the owner is understandably getting very annoyed with facebook) that would be wonderful!

    • Hi Rachel,

I just did a quick search for your page and I’m seeing three results show – all of which are under ‘Places’. I would suggest merging these into one – this will only remove the other two from the searches, your page should remain in the search.

Facebook is similar to Google in the sense that it takes time to add a page to the search engine. I created a post last week to help speed this process up – http://www.stuffedweb.com/how-to-get-your-facebook-page-higher-in-google-and-facebook-search/

As your pages are under ‘places’, make sure you verify that you are the owner (found when clicking the cog). And then change your page category in the settings.

I hope that helps, and thanks for commenting!

  • Rebecca

Hi, I am also having the same issue.  I created a page for “Smart Auto Leasing” and it is now where in the search area….Not sure how to make it get there.  Please help if possibe.

    • Hi Rebecca, great to see you here!

Your page isn’t showing up in the drop down when searching for the page, however if you click the ‘See results for ___ ‘ link, then your page does appear there.

That means that you just need to work on increasing your engagement and promoting your page.
Take a look at this post to help give you some ideas – http://www.stuffedweb.com/how-to-get-your-facebook-page-higher-in-google-and-facebook-search/

      I hope that helps!

  • Does a new page take a while to show up for the “Pages” feature? I created Momma Bear’s Tutus and it should be http://www.facebook.com/mommabearstutus but when you type in the URL no one can get to it and you can’t find it in search. No one is getting the email to suggest the page using your email contacts. I don’t know what is wrong.

    • Hi Lori. Thanks for commenting!

This normally happens when your page is unpublished. If you go to your page the click ‘Edit page’ > ‘Manage permissions’ – Make sure that the ‘Page visibility’ is not ticked.

Otherwise, check that country restrictions and age restrictions are empty.

Let me know how you get on,

  • Kimberly Frances

    Hi Sam,

I am an actress and having trouble with people finding my character page. The character is Lily Winters (543 likes). I do ghost tours and mention my facebook page and my guests have to go to google to find it, clearly you know people never want a 2 part process!

Any help would be great!!! Thanks!

    • Hi Kim,

I have just done a search for your page, your not showing in the drop down list, however you are at the top when you click the ‘See more results’ link.

I think this is because Facebook is putting people (not pages) first, however I’m not certain of this.

One thing you could try, is creating a Facebook advert. Facebook obviously likes the pages that invest in Facebook, so it helps to promote them more. Consider creating a $5 advert to see if that helps.

I enjoyed the pictures you have on the page, very creative 🙂

  • Katrina

    Hi Sam,

Like everyone on here, I have a similar issue. I recently created an official page for a business called ServiceRunner. Unfortunately, there is also another business named ServiceRunner based in Malaysia (that is not mine). Sometimes my page shows up and most often times it does not show in the search bar at all. Even when I select the ‘pages’ option, my ServiceRunner page does not pop up.

Can you check it out? Maybe I’m missing something in my settings that you can spot?

    Thanks so much in advance!

    • Hi Katrina, great to see you here!

So I found your page by clicking the ‘Pages’ link in the search (assuming your the “finding local pros that fits your needs” page).

As your page is very new, you need to focus on building your likes and interactivity on your page. As the other ServiceRunner only has 4 likes, it shouldn’t take long before Facebook starts to rank you higher than them.

So stick with it, and you will soon appear in the drop down menu 🙂

  • Barne589

Hi, My name is Meg and I am managing Apol’s Harley-Davidson Alexandria Facebook. I have a similar problem, except with another complication as well. We just switched over from a personal profile to a page that you can “like” and now we aren’t showing up in the search results. However, we have 2 pages now because they created an additional business page before I came on the job. One page has 464 likes and one has 3,305 likes. We want to get ride of the one with 464 likes (if I can figure out how to do that too) and want the Apol’s H-D Alexandria to show up when people search for us. I just requested a name change to Apol’s Harley-Davidson Alexandria to see if that makes it more visible in the search bar. Do you have any advice? Here is our URL:

    • Hi Meg, thanks for commenting 🙂

The first thing you should do is merge your pages – not delete the old one. If you take a look at Facebook’s help documents here – http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=249601088403018 – it will walk you through the process of merging your pages. This means that the extra 464 likes will go onto your main page!

In terms of the search, you are currently displaying when people type in Apols H-D, so I would suggest changing your page ‘Name’ to the full Harley-Davidson one.

You can do this by going to your page > Edit page > Update info > Name.

It may take a few days for you to start appearing for the full term, so do be patient.

Let me know how it goes!

  • Amanda Rebec

    Hi Sam,

I am just like the rest and having no luck finding our page that I just  created on the Facebook search. Are you able to check it for me? I have read all the above and changed some things but still can not find it.

    I sincerely appreciate your help,

    • Hi Amanda, thank you for commenting!

I was able to find your page when you click on the ‘See more results’ link after typing ‘Maillot Homes’. Therefore Facebook do acknowledge you in the search.

The best thing you can do at the moment is increase your ‘likes’ and your engagement. Consider inviting your current clients to your Facebook page, maybe give an incentive of some kind to get them to reply to your messages and pictures.

Let me know how it goes!

  • Terrence Chappell

    Hi Sam,
Thank you for your article. It was very insightful and helpful. However, I’m still having some trouble with my Facebook page showing up in the Facebook search engine. Here’s the situation. I’m working on the Facebook page for my job. I’m not quite sure how it was created, however, from the looks of it, the Facebook page was created from a personal Facebook profile. The name of the actual Facebook page that I would like to show up higher in the Facebook search engine is The Inbetweeners USA. However, of course someone who is not an admin or has not liked the page types it in the Facebook search engine, they have to click “more search results” to find the actual page.
I have checked the age restrictions, the countries who can view the page, and rechecked all my privacy settings for both the Facebook profile and the actual Facebook page, but it is still not showing up higher in the Facebook search engine. Also, again both the url and the name for the actual Facebook page is The Inbetweeners USA. However, at first there was no user name for the Facebook personal profile, from which the Facebook page was created. So, I plugged in the the following username for the Facebook personal profile: Theinbetweenersus. Now, the actual Facebook page is not showing up at all in the Facebook search engine. Please help, lol. I thought about migrating the Facebook personal profile into the Facebook page (The Inbetweeners USA) – hoping that it would show up higher and now at all in the Facebook search engine. If I do this, will I lose any of my likes and content (pictures, videos, etc) on my Facebook page: The Inbetweeners USA (the one that I want to show up higher and now at all in the Facebook engine)?
Any of your expert suggestions and expertise would be much appreciated. Thank you!

NOTE: There are a lot of pages and profiles that include The Inbetweeners. The name of the exact page is The Inbetweeners USA. Here’s the link if you can’t find it. Thanks!

    • Hi Terrence! Great to see you here.

I see you have only recently created the page, Facebook can be slow to move pages up the ranks and therefore you have to be patient – it gives more weight to the older pages (providing they are still active). It’s a pain I know, but the fact that your showing in the ‘See more results’ link is definitely a good sign that your page is going in the right direction.

When you merge either a page and page, or profile to page, the one with the lower number of likes will be deleted, that includes the content of the page. The likes will be transferred over, or followers turned into likes. Therefore you shouldn’t lose any of the likes or followers.

I can’t find the profile that you are talking about, I should be able to access it at facebook.com/theinbetweenersus, So you might want to check that this username is correct.

Another quick way to boost up your page within Facebook is to buy Facebook adverts – This will mean that Facebook promotes your page, therefore they make it more searchable. However this doesn’t always work!

I hope that gives you something to work with,

      P.S. I love the inbetweeners programmes – They’re great 🙂

  • Melnin

    Hi Sam,
firstly well done for the info and the help you are giving. I too set up a business facebook page, Authenticity Road it does not show up in the search or the see more results page. I read on facebook that this may be the case when page is under a week mine is over by a few days. I have checked everything you have said, but I have no likes would this be the reason? I have noticed you still seemed to find other peoples pages with no likes so not definate this is the problem, can you please confirm for me. My plan was to like my business page and newsfeeds through my facebook personal page and build it that way, but I can’t do that as my business page ‘Authenticity Road’ does not even show up?

    • Hi Melnin, thanks for commenting.

Normally it does take a week, however I have seen pages take a lot longer.

If you haven’t already, you should create a username for your page. You will find that in the page settings. You can then use that link to send people to your page until Facebook starts to index you.

As your page starts to grow, you will also appear higher in the search.

      I hope that helps!

  • Denise

Hi, my name is Denise and I have been struggling for 3 days now with a big problem with my facebook page. I manage a band that just signed a fairly big east coast tour with Forever The Sickest Kids. The promoter called and said everyone thought we were this metal band with 43 likes because that is the only facebook that shows up when you search at long last in any search engine. We have almost 5,000 likes and should be showing up out there on the search engines. My privacy settings are all set to public. I have been over everything I can think of to see why we are blocked from search engines. I manage another page that does not show up too. How can I get my page to be a presence on the web? Yesterday I did take out an adword add that is now showing up first when searching “at long last” but it is expensive (clicks are 2.50 each) and after the tour will come down. I am having a website built as we speak. Any help would be so appreciated!

    • Hi Denise,
You may be happy to know that your Facebook is appearing on page 2 of Google at the moment. So you have been indexed.

Take a look at this post about getting your Facebook page higher in Google.

There should be some tips that will help you. Otherwise, creating a website for the band is a great idea, you will then be able to link to your Facebook page and drive people both to and from your website to your page. This will help the search rankings for both 🙂

      I hope that helps!

Hi Sam, so i started my own business a week ago and I have been working on getting everything set up for my business (i.e. facebook, website, googe places, yahoo places, etc) I did a search and my business is not showing up at all (BrittByDesign) in search results and I mean nothing, which is weird to me that not even my FaceBook or Linkedin are showing up, so I went through the FB steps you posted and when you type in the business name it does not show up on people, places, or pages. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, I am gettign my site indexed, but why would FB and Linked not even be showing up in any searches. Any tips and advice will help. Thank you!

    • Hi Brittany, great to see you here!

I have just done a search (in Facebook) for your page, and you came up at the top of the list for ‘BrittByDesign’. So nothing to worry about there. Take a look at this post if you want to get your page higher on Google.

For LinkedIn, the company page doesn’t currently exist (even though your profile it says that you currently work there). If you use the search bar at the top of LinkedIn, select the option ‘companies’ and type in ‘BrittByDesign’ you should be taken to a no results found page. On that page there is a link to create your company. Once you have done that, I would suggest re-applying your current business (on your profile) so it links to the business page.

Both of these pages are very new, so you will have to be little patient on getting to the top of Google.

I hope that helps Brittany. Do let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

Hi Sam, I just put my biz on Facebook – only been open a couple of weeks and I am having the same issue. I am new to FB overall so I don’t know how it used to work. (Maybe an advantage!) Anyway, my shop doesn’t come up for anyone searching. Sometimes even giving them the link is a dud. I added “Indy” to the FB name to make it more searchable since so many out there. Still doesn’t show. I went through your steps and changed it to a Company and Organization instead of local. No restrictions on country either. Oh and my hours won’t show up either but other businesses that I know do… Help?

    • Hi Melissa,

I have just searched for your page using ‘Finer Things’. If you go to see more results, then pages, you will see your page in that list, however it is very far down at the moment (arround position 50). I would suggest adding an extra word to your page title so it’s easier for people to search – This update will take about a week to filter through.

Alternatively, you will go up the ranks by being active on your page, promoting your page and encouraging engagement with your followers.

I see you have also figured out how to get your business times to show 🙂

If there is anything else I can help you with then do let me know,

    Hi there!
I have a fan page, TheCleverCarrot but it does not show up in FB search. However, my personal profile does. TheCleverCarrot name does not show up on people, places or pages. I’m not showing up on google either.

    How can I fix this?

FYI- I had a business page set up in the same name, but deleted it (I didn’t realize that I needed a fan page and not a business page). Could this be an issue?

FYI- Google only indexes my old FB business page
FYI- I set my personal profile to private. Would that make my fan page private as well? I don’t even use the personal profile. I just created it to make a fan page.

How can I show up in FB search and google search with current name?

Any information would be a big help. Thank you so much!

  • Khoder

Hi, my name is Johnathan and I created a facebook page (Wilsons Jewelry inc) a little more than a week ago and whenever i try to search it on facebook I never get any results under anything. I merged my profile page with my business page and now I seem to not have all the options that you mentioned. But anyway so when i type in the facebook address (www.facebook.com/Wilsonsjewelryinc) it works and when i search “Wilsons Jewelry inc on facebook” it also works. I don’t know what the problem is and like I said before I merged two pages so Now the only options I have are Settings and Logout so I don’t know what to do. Should I just start a completely new account?

  • Khoder

Hello it’s Johnathan again and I found all the options you mentioned but nothing seems to be working and I still need help.

    • Hi Jonathan, great to see you here!

You’re right, the page isn’t displaying in search results. This can be due to a number of reasons:
      1. Check your admin settings and make sure your page isn’t restricting access to certain countries or age restrictions
      2. If it is under a 7 – 10 days old, Facebook probably haven’t indexed it yet – so you will just need to wait a little while
      3. If it is older, then try and promote your page to get more likes and links to the page, the more activity you can get on the page, the quicker Facebook will index it.

I hope that helps, let me know if your having trouble with anything else on your page.

  • Michael Grenade

Hello sam. My page titled comedians in cars getting coffee isn’t showing up even after I tried what you said. Any thoughts?

    • Hi Michael, Thanks for commenting.

I searched for your page in Facebook and you will be happy to know you appeared in the top position, however you have two pages at the moment, one with 11 likes, and one with a lot more! I would suggest merging the two to avoid confusion.

      I hope that helps,

  • Hi my name is Cassidie and I just started my business a few days ago and I’m not seeing it all on a facebook search (SunnyCheeksDesigns) its not under people, places, pages etc. Any tips

    • Hi Cassidie, thank you for commenting. The page showed in Facebook search when I typed in ‘Sunny Cheeks Designs’. As it’s a new page, it is likely that Facebook hadn’t indexed it straight away.

Let me know if your still having problems,

Hello, my name is Johnathan and I created a business page called Wilsons Jewelry inc. I decided to merge my profile and my business page together and that worked out fine. But I have done absolutely EVERYTHING I can to fix this. When I search my page nothing shows up under any tab. I really need help I don’t know what to do.

Hello, my name is Johnathan and I created a business page called Wilsons Jewelry inc. about 2 weeks ago. I decided to merge my profile page and my business page together and that worked out fine. But I have done EVERYTHING and no matter what whenever I search Wilsons Jewelry inc NOTHING shows up under any tab. I switched from local business to companies and the search showed up ONCE but then the next day it didn’t show up anymore. I need help I don’t know what to do.

    • Hi Coder, I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble! What is the link to your Facebook page? I will have a look for you to see if I can help. – Sam

      • Coder
        • Hi Johnathan,
Sometimes Facebook won’t index a page until the page has a little bit of activity. Now your page will eventually show up in the ‘Places’ part of Facebook, I know this because you have the ‘were here’ text under your page title.

Your page is now 14 days old, Facebook normally takes around 10 days to index a page, so your’s should be appearing in the search. I would suggest you double check your settings to make sure you aren’t restricting access to any age groups or areas as this can stop you getting indexed.

Secondly you need to fill in your ‘About’ part of the page, Facebook (and other search engines) will use the text found there for keywords.

Otherwise, if you start posting to your page and growing your likes, you should appear in the search pretty quickly.

          I hope that helps!

Sam, I added a business page to my existing facebook page. the name is packin the scented wax. I can not for the life of me get my business page to pull up in the work field of my facebook page so i can tag packin the scented wax as my business and me the owner. i have searched for a fix and am coming up clueless!

    • Hi Denise,

I actually created a blog post answering this a while ago – http://www.stuffedweb.com/how-to-link-your-facebook-profile-to-your-facebook-page/.

Please let me know if you get stuck as this post is getting a little old now, so some parts might have changed slightly.

Let me know how you get on!

      • Denise Baldwin

I signed on to another computer in my house that had firefox on it as I use Google Chrome (love it) but evidently they are still a bit behind the times? As soon as I clicked the work field in edit mode my business came up! Why would the difference in web browsers even matter for a stupid work link? I had no issues at all pulling my business page up in the find people field but Chrome would not allow me to put it in the work field. On to happiness though, it is fixed! I am stoked and thanks so much for your help!! P.S. Come check out my newly built Scentsy Page 🙂
http://www.facebook.com/PackinTheScentedWax Let me know if you have suggestions to make it any better!

        • Hi Denise, glad you got it sorted! It sounds like your browser was saving the old version of the page – this can happen sometimes. Chrome is my browser of choice too :).

Your page is looking good! You just need to make all of your customers aware that you have a page so they can come and like it.

hi sam, i have a fan page created for a small team of mine. i read over your recommendations, and tried a few things, with no luck. the direct url is: http://www.facebook.com/synrgpowered, but it seems as though (anyone who hasn’t already LIKED our page) isn’t able to search for it in the search bar. it doesn’t seem to come up. any help would be appreciated!

    • Hi Daniel,

Thanks for commenting! I just took a look at your page, it came up in the search box when typing in ‘Team syNRG’ – So looks like you got the problem sorted :).

  • Nat

Hi Sam, thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge with all the suggestions below… Im hoping you might be able to shed some light on a problem Im having. I created a facebook page for a business 18 days ago and its still not showing up in searches /check-ins etc. Ive tried every suggestion Ive read on this page and others to no avail. http://www.facebook.com/KinkHairSalon. Ive reported the problem to facebook and tried to claim two places pages that were set up … nothing back from FB yet 🙁
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • Hi Nat,

      Great to see you here!
I just did a search for your Facebook page and it came up as the first result! So it looks like you got it sorted. Facebook can be a bit slow sometimes (especially when contacting them!!). But I’m glad it’s all sorted now.

  • Nat

Hi Sam – hoping you can shed some light on my problem please? Ive set up a facebook business page and tried many many things, including all those you’ve kindly listed below, over the last 10 days as its not showing up in search results or check-ins. Its now finally shown up in google but title has been partially translated into Spanish! The address in google is ca-es.facebook.com/KinkHair/Salon and the username is Kink – Perruqueria (instead of hair salon). Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • Hi Nat,

This sounds like a very odd problem!
Your page looks fine from a public perspective, so I’m not too sure at the moment.

Could you send me a link to a page where I can find it, or let me know what to type into Google?

  • al hensel

facebook.com/chandlermetalroofing. not showing up on google at all. even when searching for that very URL! please help! THX! not a new page. years old.

  • If this become a duplicate I apologize – first time I tried to post it did not seem to.
My facebook business page ( facebook.com/chandlermetalroofing ) has NEVER shown up on a google search (or yahoo, etc.) It is not a new page, it’s a few years old. I am baffled. Please help! I appreciate any insight you may have.
    Thank you!

  • Hi Julia,

Thanks for commenting! Normally this is due to the dates on your job roles being wrong. Make sure you have filled in the ‘Length of time’ fields.

If you have ticked the box ‘I currently work here’ then I believe the first company you worked for will be your job description.

If that doesn’t help, can you send me a link to your profile page? I’d be happy to take a look.

P.S. Sorry for the slow reply, your message came through as spam, so I didn’t see it (not sure why – sorry!)

  • Same problem here: the university page I manage doesn’t show up in search results. Search for ‘Radboud University’ and you’ll only get the Community page (from Wiki), but not this page: http://www.facebook.com/radbouduniversity

    Please help!

    • Hi Steven, Thanks for commenting!

You may be happy to know you are appearing in the search results. If you type in ‘Radboud University’ and click the ‘See more results from…’ link at the bottom, you will find your listing under the ‘Places’ link.

This means you just need to work on building the engagement of your page to get yourself higher up the list.

If you don’t want your page to appear as a place, then take a look at this article.

      Does that help?

      • Sorry for the late reply and thank you. You are absolutely right and I’m glad this is solved.

        • No problem Steven and great to hear that everything is working correctly.

          Thanks for letting me know!

  • Hi Sam, so i started my own Restaurant 5 months ago and I have been working on getting everything set up for my Restaurant (i.e. facebook page, website, etc) I did a search and my Restaurant is not showing up at all (Binge) in search results and I mean nothing, which is weird to me that not even my FaceBook is showing up, so I went through the FB steps you posted and when you type in the Restaurant name it does not show up on people, places, or pages. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, I am getting my site indexed, but why would FB not even be showing up in any searches. Any tips and advice will help. Thank you! The Link to the Restaurant Page is https://www.facebook.com/Bingeind

    • Hi Edwin, Sorry to hear your having problems!

I searched for your page using ‘Binge’ and as you said, it doesn’t show. However if you search for your page’s ID (the URL) it shows as the first and only result – Bingeind.

This means that your page is indexed. Your page should be showing for the search term ‘Binge’ as it’s your page title, however for some reason it’s not…

I would suggest you continue to grow your page and promote interactation with it – e.g. ask lots of questions, use lots of images. As there were lots of results for ‘Binge’ consider adding another word to your title, like ‘Binge India’ or ‘Binge Restaurant’.

I hope that helps! Let me know how you get on!
      – Sam

Hi, wonering if you can help us, my fb page is only showing if I type in california vintage gc, not california vintage which I want it to, can you please take a look for me? http://www.facebook com/thecaliforniavintage. Thanks

    • Hi Em,

Great to see you here! I have just searched for your page using ‘California Vintage’ and you came up second on the list 🙂

Sometimes Facebook just takes a few days for the changes to go though.

  • Mentor Cardinal

Could you look for Mentor Cardinals Boys Soccer? Only those who Liked the page can see it. If one searches for it, the page cannot be found.

    • Hey! Thanks for commenting!

I can’t find your page in the search, however I have a few questions for you –
      1. Have you checked your page settings?
      – are there any restrictions set?
      2. When did you create your page?
      3. Can I have the link to your page so I can check?

      • Mentor Cardinal Soccer

The page was created a few weeks ago. All the settings seem to be correct – no country restrictions, etc. Here is the link:

        • OK that link is re-directing me straight back to the Facebook homepage. Which means that your page is either restricted (which you have checked) or it’s not published.

In your admin, go to ‘Manage Permissions’.
Double check that ‘Page visibility’ is not ticked.
‘Country restrictions’ should be empty with ‘Hide this page from viewers…’ selected.
‘Age restrictions’ should be ‘Anyone (13+)’.

If that is all set, let me know and I will check again.

          I hope that helps!

          • Mentor Cardinal Soccer

Hi Sam, Could you look at the page again? Everything is how it should be as you stated above. Thanks.

          • Ok I have got your page now. And no it’s not showing in the search – which it should be.

Facebook is often very slow at indexing a page (even though it’s in their system), there are a couple more things you can do to help:

            1. wait it out – it’s a pain I know.
            2. Get your followers to comment on the page – interactivity helps a lot!
            3. Purchase FB ads – they love it when you spend your money (minimum you can spend is $50, so probably not the best option).
            4. Add a Facebook plugin to your website – This helps grow your page which means FB will pay more attention to you (similarly links to your page are good too).

I’m sorry I can’t be more help than that. Lot’s of new pages have this same issue – I wouldn’t expect you to have to wait too long before it get’s indexed.

Just so you know, when it finally shows up it will be under ‘Places’ not pages. This is because you have a map with the checkin functionality turned on.

I hope that gives you something to go on.

          • Mentor Cardinal Soccer

Thanks so much for your timely help!! As you well know FB provides no support for these sorts of questions and concerns.

          • It’s no problem at all! I’m glad to help where I can. If there is anything else I can help you with then let me know.
            – Sam

          • Mentor Cardinal Soccer

It was as you said. FB was slow catching up on the indexing. We can now search the Page as it should be.

          • Ah that’s great news! Thank you for letting me know 🙂

  • Edward

Our FB business page will not appear in FB search, but does on Google..settings are fine and no restrictions…Its been over a week, we have 100 likes…but it can only be seen if we send out the link….HELP!! http://www.facebook.com/TheBehavioralGrowingTree

    • Hi Edward,

Sorry to hear your having problems! Recently Facebook has been very slow to index new pages, if you look at the comment below (Mentor Cardinal) they were in the same position as you.

Unfortunately at this stage the only solution is to wait it out. Some page’s take up to a month to index, however most are within the first two weeks.

The best thing you can do at the moment is to generate engagement, the more active your page is, the quicker it will be indexed.

Sorry I can’t be more help!

  • Patience Celt

Hi there, I am having similar issues – I started my page a couple of weeks ago and most of my friends like the page (over 1000 likes so far) I originally set it up (accidently) as a place but changed that the very next day. In search it is still only showing up as a place and not a page. What can I do? Usborne Books & More with Patience

    • Patience Celt

also it doesn’t seem to show up in search at all under ‘all results’ but if I type in the full name and then press ‘places’ its there.

      • Hi Patience, Thank you for commenting!

Regarding your page showing as a place, take a look at this post – http://www.stuffedweb.com/change-facebook-place-into-a-facebook-page. There should be an option in your settings to turn off the check-ins which would then convert your place to a page.

With the search results, Facebook is extremely slow at putting the right pages in their search engines. As you are in the search results, it’s just a waiting game for now. Thankfully, you show up in the drop down list when using the search box, and that’s far more important 🙂

I hope that helps! Let me know how you get on.

P.S. Thank you for being my 100th comment 🙂

  • Nicki Turnbull

Having trouble with Pegasus Rental Cars Nelson not showing in Google. The other Pegasus FB pages do which have less likers and interaction than ours. Just changed local business to company to see if that helps. Unsure if we are shiwing in FB search. Not a new page. Url for FB is PeasusRentalCars.Nelson ….

    • Hi Nicki, Great to see you here!

Your page is showing up in Facebook search under places. So that’s good news. Regarding Google search, your not yet indexed (or I can’t find you anyway). Google is VERY slow to index Facebook pages as they are a competitor, however they will index eventually. The best thing you can do is get other websites to link to your Facebook page. The more links your page receives, the quicker Google will find your page.

      I hope that helps!

  • Hi Sam,
We’re trying to get our pages likes up and going, however when users try and search for our page, they are directed to other pages (like many others here). The facebook URL is facebook.com/lessismorefashion. Eventually we would like users directed to our page merely by typing in less is more, however at the moment when searching for less is more fashion they are still directed elsewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Hi Anthony, great to see you here!

You might be happy to know that your page is in the search, however it is quite far down the list at the moment. You can find it by typing ‘Less is more’ into Facebook search, then clicking ‘See more results from…’ and either in all results, or pages, you need to scroll to the bottom and click ‘More results’.

This means that to get higher up the list, you need to increase the engagement on your page. You have a great use of images, however with the descriptions, try adding questions like “This is great! What do you think?” to prompt the conversation.

Remember that you don’t have to ask relevant questions ALL the time, the idea is to increase engagement and make a connection with your fans.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions!

P.S. I deleted the duplicate comment on the other post, I hope that’s ok

  • ADA

Our facebook page use to appear in the search results all the time. I didn’t change a thing. We decided to spread the word about our organization and start paying $5 now and then to promote posts. It is around that time I discovered by pure chance that our page completely disappeared from search results – it is as if we never existed – word of mouth can help us for noone can find us. Our organization is H.A.S. (helpforafricanstudents). I tried everything and even emailed Facebook zero reply. Above you mentioned “Click the ‘Do you know the owner?’ which can be found in the settings (cog at the top right)”. We do not have that option in our settings. Our facebook page use to appear in the search results all the time. I didn’t change a thing.

    • Hi ADA,

I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems. If you can send me the link to your page I would be happy to take a look.

  • Hi Sam: I had a business page on FB that was old, dated and crappy looking. So, I completed altered the entire thing to make it inviting and more interactive. When the page was “crappy” it came up in Google under American Mortgage Finance Pittsburgh everytime I searched. Now, the updated page does not show up whatsoever. To make it more odd, if you google American Mortgage Finance Pittsburgh and look at my google listing, it says: Facebook Missing at the bottom of the URL! Make sense? My personal FB page is linked to the American Mortgage Finance page. Could that be the reason? Other than the two being connected, I am at a loss. All of my permissions are set to Public. I am confusing you at all? I am just baffled. Now you see it, now you don’t! Please help if you can!! My page is http://www.facebook.com/americanmortgagefinance. Thanks Sam!!!!

    • Hi Laura, Thanks for commenting!

When you updated the old page, did you change the page URL? e.g. from facebook. com/pages/random-number to facebook.com /americanmortgagefinance? If so, your page will have lost any Google ranking it had – It’s like starting again from scratch unfortunately.

I don’t understand what you mean about the URL. Can you elaborate on that a little? Or tell me exactly what I need to do to be able to see this?

Your personal FB page shouldn’t have any affect on your company page. If anything, linking to your page will help!

  • Dean

Hi Sam, My name is Dean and I created a page for our spa in Virginia called Pamper Hut but when I search on Facebook it does not show up in the ‘all’ or ‘pages’ filters but does show up under ‘places’. Is there a way to get it to appear under both the ‘all’ and ‘pages’ filter?

There is another company ‘the pamper hut’ which shows up everywhere but this isn’t us. Our Facebook is http://www.facebook.com/pamperhut

Any tips and advice would be wonderful!

    • Hi Dean,

Great to see you here! I just did a search for your page, your page shows in the drop down list, but as you say, it’s not under the ‘All’ or ‘Pages’ options in the search. This is often due to your page being new.

The best thing you can do at this stage is work on building your audience. Start by getting existing clients and friends to like your page, once your above the 30 mark, things should start to fall in place.

Your currently listed under places – which is interesting as you don’t have the ‘were here’ stats, but if you want your page to appear as a ‘page’ and not a ‘place’, take a look at this post.

I hope that helps, let me know how you get on.

  • Adrienne

Hello Sam, I have a business page that will not come up when trying to update my job information on my personal page. Is there anything I can do or that I am doing wrong. Its fairly new and I have no direction on this. Thank you for your help!

    • Hi Adrienne! Thanks for commenting!

You have a couple of options with this, the first is to set up your page to be a local business, then wait for the settings to filter through in Facebook. Eventually you should be able to select this page when updating your job information.

Or if like me, you don’t have the patience to wait for Facebook to catch up, take a look at this post on adding your page to your profile. This is a slightly old post now, however I believe that the steps are still the same.

Let me know how you get on!

  • Jennifer

Hello! I’m also having the same problem of my Facebook business page not being shown when people search for it. I can see it and also anyone who has liked my page…but, when someone I am not friends with searches it returns 0 search results. I have changed all the setting you have mentioned (place, countries, ages, ect.) My business is really new and this is the only way I have to promote it so I am very puzzled at what to do to fix this. My Facebook business page is under Life Expressions – Jennifer Medley Hayes (Independent Consultant) any ideas you can recommend will be more than appreciated! Thanks so much, Jennifer

    • Hi Jennifer. Thanks for commenting!

Facebook is very slow to index pages. If it was only the other day that you created it, then I’m afraid the only option you have is to wait.

You can speed up the process by growing your page. This can by posting pictures and questions (things that people will respond too) and get your friends to like your page.

I’m sorry I can’t be much more help than that at the moment. If your still not there in a week or two, then send me a link and I will take a closer look.

      • Jennifer

Thanks for your reply! I will just wait it out and hope that it shows up soon! If not then i will send you the link! Thanks again for your help! I really appreicate it!

  • ana

i started a new facebook page for our buisness. the first week our atheltes were able to check-in at our facility. they the page disappered from check-in option on the mobile. it still works if you try to do it from a pc. page name is CrossFit Manayunk – CFMY ARMY. philadelphia, pa.

i checked my settings and all from the post above and everything is as should be. suggestions would be appreciated ! thanks.

    • Hi Ana, Great to see you here!

I just had a look at your page on my phone. It seems as if the Facebook app doesn’t show the check in button, however if you go to Facebook in a web browser on your phone, the check-in button was there. This seems to be a limitation to the app which I wasn’t aware of before.

The best solution at the moment is to ask users to checkin on the mobile version of Facebook instead of the app. The other possibility is that the Facebook app is smart enough to know which locations are in your area, but I can’t test that.

      I hope that helps!

  • Carlos

Page shows up in search but not when I try to link it to “Add work” any ideas anyone?

  • Michael

Hi! So I’ve read the great article and some of the comments. Seems that a lot of us have the same issue. My page dubuy.dk can’t be found in facebook searches (only an old group of ours – not the page). We’ve had a page since March and the problem has always been there. Recently (a week ago) we changed the name of the page though from http://www.dubuy.dk to dubuy.dk. Could the www be the reason for us not being shown in searches? Or could the name change be the reason (remember that this was an issue before the change as well). Settings should be alright – public and no restrictions in regarding countries or age.

We have 290 likes and post every a couple of times a week.

Any help is much appreciated! 🙂

    • Hi Michael. Thanks for commenting!

Yes changing the page name can have a negative affect on the Facebook search (even minor changes) – Which is extremely annoying.

Normally these changes will take a few days to propagate through, however on occasion they can take longer.

Double check that your settings are still set to public (no restrictions) and try and add as much detail as possible onto the about page.

Sorry I can’t be any more help than that!

  • Patti

Hi Sam! My band’s page is also not showing up in Search Results on Facebook. I have completed all the steps you’ve said above, and I still can’t seem to solve it. My band “Practically Strangers” doesn’t show up on any of the search tabs. Do you have any other suggestions?

    • Hey Patti! Great to see you here!

When was your page created? Is it pretty new?

      • Patti

My page has been up for almost a month now! I have been told that it may have been fixed, however, my guitarist says it’s still not showing up.

  • Adam Momtaheni

I am currently managing the Facebook page for BMW of Greenwich. The URL for the page is http://www.facebook.com/BMWofGreenwich . When people who do not currently like this page do a search in Facebook, it does not appear anywhere. However, another BMW of Greenwich Facebook page does show up. The page that shows up was originally managed by a 3rd party company who we no longer do business with and the page that I am managing was set up prior to my arrival. I do not have a username and password to old page and attempts to contact Facebook and get it removed have not worked. How do I remove the old page and get the correct page to appear in the Facebook search results? Thank you.

    • Hi Adam,

I have some good news for you, as that page is listed as a place, you can click on the cog at the top right, click the “Is this your business?” link and claim it as your own, you can then delete it or merge it with your other one.

You should also claim your page!

Your page is behaving oddly in the search, when you type, it shows the old page, but if you click see more results, you are the very top result.

I’m rather confused as to why this is happening. It could be because your settings have a restriction set? If not, then claiming the old page and merging it (so you keep the likes) should fix the issue.

      I hope that helps!

      • Adam Momtaheni

Thank you for your quick response. Facebook has now given me administrative access to the old page and I have unpublished it. I want to wait until the official page has more likes than the old page before I merge them, based on what I read on the Facebook help site, “Content on the Page with more likes will remain unchanged, except for the addition of likes and check-ins added from the Page with fewer likes. The Page with fewer likes will be removed from Facebook and you will not be able to unmerge it.” I believe my page is claimed, if not, please let me know how to do this. I have no restrictions set on my page. Now that the old page has been unpublished, when someone who does not already like the official page does a search, another page called BMW of Greenwich shows up. I have sent Facebook a notification that this is a duplicate site. I want to get the likes up on the official page so it has more than the old one so I can then merge the two pages, but it is impossible to do when no one can find the official page when they search for it. Thank you again for your time and help.

      • Adam Momtaheni

It seems to be working now. Thank you for all of your help.

        • Hey Adam. Great to hear that it is all working correctly.
And good call on waiting until your page has a greater number of likes than the others!

          • Adam Momtaheni

Although everything is now working well via a computer, when people search “BMW of Greenwich” on the Facebook app on their iPhone, it does not return any search results. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

          • Hi Adam,

I don’t know if that was a temporary glitch, but I just searched on my phone for “BMW of Greenwich” and it has shown in the results as expected.

Is there still an issue with this?

  • Daniela V

Omg I have been struggling for the past 12 hours because I couldn’t figure out why my client’s page did not show up anywhere. It’s only 1 week old and I didn’t notice because I was an admin. The page is Facebook.com/omnitourstravel and doesn’t show up in any type of search within FB. you can only get to it if you have the direct link. I was finally, able to claim it though my client’s personal FB. I hope I am able to get this fixed by the weekend as the email said to attach proper documentation to show they are owners of the page (not sure what that entails). Thanks for the very helpful info! I still think it’s strange it doesn’t show up anywhere in the search not even under places, even though it was mistakenly set up as a place.

    • Hi Daniela, I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with this.

As you might have seen from the other comments, you are not alone!

Double check your settings to make sure that you aren’t restricting your page from any countries or age groups. If they are fine, then the only thing you can do is wait it out. Continue posting and engaging your audience. The more you grow, the more Facebook will take notice of you.

I’m sorry that I can’t be any more help than that!

  • Daniela V

Hi Sam, I just looked at the page and I can see the category has changed to “company.” However, when i tried to search it under a different Fb profile nothing comes up. 🙁 would you be so kind to check and see what you find? https://www.facebook.com/OmniToursTravel?bookmark_t=page I am thinking as a last resort to create another identical page as you had mentioned and merge them. Do you think that would fix the problem? My client’s biggest concern right now is that nobody is seeing the page. Thank you!

    • Hi Daniela,

I just tried to search for your page and nope, nothing comes up. I searched for “OmniToursTravel” and “OmniTours”.

Have you checked your settings to make sure that no restrictions are being set?

In this case, I don’t believe it’s a problem where you should create another page and merge it. Assuming your settings are all fine (no restrictions) then it will be because your page is only a week old. Facebook is terrible at indexing new pages and I can confidently say that your page will appear in the searches soon, but it is a waiting game I’m afraid.

As mentioned before, the best thing you can do is promote engagement. I see that you are above the 30 likes mark, so it shouldn’t be very long before your indexed.

      I hope that helps,

      • Daniela V

Sam, thanks for your help and time! I hope waiting it out works.

        • No problem Daniela. I’m always happy to help where I can. Let me know how it goes!

  • Sheri

    Hi Sam,
Thanks for the helpful post. I’ve created a Facebook place for my business and I’m having the same trouble in that its not showing up in search result, only in my admin. I’ve claimed the page but do I need to get 30 likes before the place starts showing in the search results?

    • Hi Sheri. Great to see you here!

You do not need to have 30 likes before your page shows up in the search, but it does help.
If you have only just claimed your page, I would suggest you wait for 1 – 2 weeks and then check again. Facebook is slow to recognise new pages but providing you don’t have any restrictions set, it will go through soon.

      I hope that helps,

  • James

I recently was put in charge of updating my business fb page. I had to become the admin to even find it and now I have tried everything to make it searchable, but no luck. It was created in 2011 but didn’t have really any activity on the page until i took over about 5 days ago. You can follow links to the page and search it on google but not on fb. Please help. The page is for Murphy Eye Associates. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Murphy-Eye-Associates/127670360631536

    • Hi James! Great to see you here!

The first thing you should do is register a vanity URL, you can do this by going to update page > Basic Information > Username.

Secondly, you need to check your page restrictions, normally it doesn’t show in the search because your page is restricted to a certain age group or country, make sure the age is 13+ and there are no country restrictions.

If you make those changes, then continue using your page like normal for a week or two, you should go into the search.

In some cases, Facebook ignores pages that have been inactive for a while, the only thing you can do in this case is create a new page, build up the likes to a greater number than your current page, and then merge the two together.

I hope that helps! And I’m sorry to hear your having trouble with it.

  • Reza Fathzadeh

    Hi Sam,
My page shows up in the searches but I can’t add it to my Work (in About section of my personal profile). Can you help me figure it out?

  • Nina

I have created a personal page for myself, and attached my company page to it, I am going to be setting up and managing other peoples face book pages from it too. My company – Hollyoak Co – appears in the search bar at the top and I can “like” it – but it will not appear in the list of places when I try to say I work there from my personal page.
    Any ideas?

Secondly – The company have an existing page that was run by someone who has now left. I tried to go to the settings button on the page and follow the “is this your business” tab but that option does not appear. Any ideas how I can merge this page into the new one I am creating.

Any help and advice you can give will be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    • Hi Nina!

For point 1 – I created a post a while a go that should help you with this – http://www.stuffedweb.com/how-to-link-your-facebook-profile-to-your-facebook-page/ – The problem is normally caused because the page is new, but this should allow you to fix it. I did create the post a while ago, so some of the terms might be very slightly different, if they are then please let me know and I will update it 🙂

For point 2 – Unfortunately, if the Place has already been claimed then you only have one option – try and get in contact with one of the administrators and ask them to make you an admin. Unfortunately this is what Facebook recommends too.

If that doesn’t work, then take a look at this section on Facebook trademark infringements to see if there is another route you could take to reclaim your page.

I’m sorry that your having trouble with this! But do let me know how you get on.

  • JYJZ

    Hi Sam,

I am actually having the opposite problem. We have store (JYJZ) that is a page but I would like to change it to a place, so people can check in. However, now that I have changed it to a place, I tried to check in to the store using the Facebook app on an iPhone but it doesn’t show up. It only shows up if I search for our name “JYJZ” in the search bar. We had a “JYJZ Store” that people could check into, however, not many people could find it. Due to that reason, we deleted it, not knowing that we could merge the two. If I could get my page that recently turned into a place to work, it would be so awesome… Our link is http://www.facebook.com/jyjzsf and it currently says “0 were here.” If you have any suggestions or tips, I’d love to hear them!

    • Hey JYJZ,

      Great to see you here!

Normally this is because your page has only just been changed to a place, it typically takes up to a week for the functionality to be available on the phones.

I see that you have 1 checkin now, is that just luck or is it working?

      • JYJZ

        Hi Sam!

Thanks for a quick response! I actually just merged a page that someone else created when they checked in. I’ll wait a week and cross my fingers that it works!

        Many Thanks!

        • Hi JYJZ,

No problem at all. Let me know if it kicks in!

  • Chase

I created a FB page about a week or so ago. It’s for my fitness bootcamp. I told a couple of the clients to like it and they did. Then a couple of days later I can’t find the page at all in the listings. I also had a client say she liked it and I saw her like it but yet on my admin page it doesn’t show her as liking it.
After reading your article above about if someone checks in then it may change to a place I think that is what is going on. My question would be what if I still want people to find my regular business page but also want them checking in when they come to the bootcamp. How can I maintain the business page then? And for your info my business page link as I did claim it is Facebook.com/corefitnessllc
As there are tons of core fitness pages. Mine has a logo of a guy holding a globe or big ball with lines above his head.

    • Hi Chase! Thanks for commenting.

Your business page and place are pretty much the same thing – they should both be appearing in the search results and have very similar functionality. The main difference is obviously the check-in functionality and a map on your about page.

It does sound odd that you have suddenly dropped out of the search results. This is normally caused by a restriction being set within your settings, or a page name change. Have either of these occurred lately?

The last possibility is that your page is still very new, sometimes it just takes a little while for Facebook to realise you are an active and real page – So the best thing you can do is continue to grow your page. Try and get your friends to like it initially, that will help you reach the 30 like threshold, that should give access to the insights.

      I hope that helps!

  • Hi Sam,

I am having a problem with my facebook business photography page connecting from the web and to a private group on facebook….can you check out what I am doing wrong here?

    Url is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Soulfuse-Fine-Art-Photography/115068031874270

    • Hi Sandy, great to see you here!

This is normally because the page has some restrictions set within your settings.

If you go to ‘Edit page’ > ‘Manage Permissions’ then first check that ‘Page visibility’ is unticked.
Then check that you have nothing in Country restrictions and nothing in Age restrictions.

It would also be worth you setting up a vanity URL, you can do this by going to ‘Edit page’ > ‘Basic Information’ then entering a username.

That username will then change the link to your page something like http://www.facebook.com/your-username

I hope that helps, and do let me know how you get on!

  • Kevin Chao

Hi, my name’s Kevin and I’ve had a DJ page up for over a year now and never had problems before. For some reason when someone who doesn’t already like my page tries typing in my page name in the FB search engine nothing comes up!! not in the pages, not in the drop down list, not in the “see results for” list. Very frustrating! PLEASE HELP!!

    • Kevin Chao

I also haven’t been able to “tag” myself at any events when I post pictures on my personal profile.

      • Hey Kevin. Great to see you here!

This is normally caused by some restrictions being set within the settings. Go to ‘Edit page > Manage permissions’. Make sure all of the restrictions at the top are left blank, and the age is 13+.

If you have changed the name of the page then you can also drop out of the search results, but this should only be for a short period of time.

If that doesn’t help, send me a link to your page and I will see if I can spot anything else.

        Thanks again!

        • Kevin Chao

Still can’t seem to figure out why my page won’t come up or the tagging issue 🙁 all I was able to do was create a user name. http://www.facebook.com/DJCHAOmusic

          • Hi Kevin, Nope your page is definately not coming up in the searches. Have you double checked your restriction settings. If you have anything set here then you will never show up in the results. That is the most common cause.

With the tagging, is it your page you are trying to tag? If so, there is a setting that allows your page to be tagged in pictures, you need to make sure that you have the setting turned on otherwise you won’t be able to be tagged.
If it’s your profile that you are having the problem with then I’m afraid I can’t be much help as the tagging is a default feature, you can stop others from tagging you in pictures, but you should always be able to tag yourself.

            I hope that helps!

      • And with your tagging, that should be a setting from your personal profile.

From the top right, click the down arrow (next to your name) then select Privacy settings, click ‘Edit settings’ next to ‘Timeline & Tagging’ and there should be a setting in there.

        I hope that helps!

  • J Alpha

Hi Sam, Sam I have a problem and i just can’t get my head around it, I have a Facebook page called ‘Bouncers around the World’ I set it up under organization and it displays in the search results on Facebook but not on Google, and here’s the Killer (so to speak) The link that i take from the address bar (from the page) and place on pages linking to ‘Bouncers Around the World’ it doesn’t open the page unless you have your Facebook account open..

Could you please take a look and let me know if i have broken something Sam. Im stuck, and the Website is about to be launched, along with the YouTube channels etc.

Signed : Completely stumped. J. Alpha.

(Oh i followed your above, though i could see it in the Facebook results I changed it from ‘Organization’ to ‘Website page’ just in case it helped. But alas.

    • J Alpha

Hi Sam , its me the guy from the above post. J Alpha.

I used other things you had said and found that i had placed a restriction on the page.

Cheers for the Help (inadvertently) Sam. really Appreciate your guys work.

      A happy Bouncer.

      J Alpha

      • Hi J,

I’m glad you got it sorted and thank you for commenting!

  • americanvintagebedford@aol.com

Hello, I am having the same issue no one is finding me on the search engines we are American Vintage and I am located in Bedford Va, andy help would be great!

    • Hey! Sorry to hear your having problems. Can you send me a link to your page so I can take a look?
Also, double check your permissions, make sure you have no country restrictions set and the age restriction is the lowest (13+).

  • Victorian Society

    Hi Sam
The non-profit organization I’m working with has a Facebook page that has been “abandoned” for lack of a better term. No one knows who made the page or how to get in touch with them to have them remove the page or get access to it. I created a new page for the organization and have been trying to “claim” the old abandoned page to merge the two. Problem is, the “is this your business” link isn’t showing up when I visit the old page to claim it, so I can’t provide documentation to Facebook to prove I am authorized to claim the page. Any ideas how I can get the two pages merged (or the old one deleted?)

    • Hi Victorian Society,

I’m afraid you don’t have too many options with this. If the page has already been claimed by someone, then the only way to get it back is get in contact with the administrator of the page.

The only other thing you can do is report it to Facebook for interlectual property theft. You can find all of the information for that here.

The easiest option of course is to just continue as if it doesn’t exist.

I’m sorry that I can’t be any more help than that.

  • serita thompson

i still cant get facebook page to come up after entering in search box.

    • Hi Serita, great to see you here!

Have you double checked all of your restrictions to make sure that none are set?
If no restrictions are set then it is often due to a newly created page, is this the case with you?

  • Don

Hello, same problem here. I have created a pafe “the Don” checked everyrhing… (age, country, privace, publish and everything is as recommended) but still 15 days later it does not come up on the search results…. I was patient… any other idea? Thank you in advance… BTW it is not registered as a place either… (the don.kristo is my url)

    • Hi Don! Thanks for commenting.

The problem here (assuming you don’t have any restrictions set) is that your page name is too generic.

Facebook search doesn’t pay attention to words like ‘the and a’ so it will be searching on ‘don’. don also doesn’t have to be a stand alone word, so it will return results for donkey and donut etc. The way around that is to enter a space after the word ‘don’ but that will still bring back LOADS of results.

I would suggest you add a word or two to your title e.g. ‘The Don’ + your location?

Try changing the title, then give it a week and see if that helps.

      • Don

Thank you for your reply…! I imagine what you mean… its called re branding… Not very fun! anyway i am trying to find my “middle” name. Regards

        • Hi Don, I’m afraid that’s the case. It’s either that, or try and battle your way through all of the other names that contain ‘don’ in their name until you climb to the top 5 positions.

I’m sorry about the work that’s involved in both of those options!

  • first off, WOW for replying to all these comments. you rock!

Just having a bit of trouble getting my page to show up in FB search and in the list of locations for check-ins.

This may be just because it’s under a week old. But I was wondering if you had any advice/experience on naming and how it affects search. The name is currently in all caps and has an accent in it. It is also quite short.

    • Hey Theo! Thank you very much 🙂

OK here are a few tips on naming conventions:

      1. Longer, more specific names always perform better and get to the top of the list quicker
      2. Words like ‘The, a, and, or’ are stop words and won’t be searched, so avoid using those
      3. Short names will compete with longer words e.g. ‘pens’ will also show ‘pension’ in the results
      4. Adding a location to the name can differentiate your page from others with the same name

I’m not sure whether accents work on FB, I know that when I enter special characters, it will ignore them, but if your default language is different than en, I would assume it will work?! – If you can confirm that then that would be great!

If your target audience could be searching for your page in English, I would strongly advise not using symbols.

I’m very tempted to create an article on this as I have seen others with a similar problem, so do stay tuned 🙂

I hope that gives you some ideas!

  • Arjun

Hi. I am having the problem of my page not appearing in any of the search listings. When someone uses the link he/she can find my page, but not otherwise. This seems like a fb bug. can you see if you know how to fix this? I ve double checked ALL the page settings and haven’t been able to find any solution. The page is 20 days old and it has 170 likes.

    • Arjun
      • Rosendude

        dude, you’re searchable. I’m not.

      • Hey Arjun!

Yep as Rosendude said, you are searchable. It was probably a delay with Facebook indexing your page. You may need to click ‘See all results’ to see your page, but you were at the top of the list for me!

Glad you got it sorted 🙂

  • Rosendude

    Hi Sam,
I’m sure you never heard this before , but my page does not show up in the facebook search bar. It’s Rosendude http://www.facebook.com/rosendude I made sure there’s no age or country restrictions, and my fan page was created November 25th. Why is Mark Zuckerberg doing this to me?
    Scott aka Rosendude

    • Hi Scott!

Recently Facebook has been taking a little longer to index pages, however 2 – 3 weeks is on the longer end of the Facebook time scales. Normally, Facebook kicks into gear once you hit the 30 like mark, so I would advise being a little patient at the moment and giving it a week or two more as your only just over that threshold.

As long as you have no restrictions set in your settings, there is no reason for your page not to be indexed. I think that Mark Z just doesn’t like new business pages 🙂

      Hope that helps!

      • Rosendude

check again, I think i’m searchable NOW. If so then math wise, it took 24 days, 35 likes.

        • Woo congratulations 🙂 I’m glad it’s all sorted, even if it did take quite some time!!

  • Willa

Hi, first thank you so much for making such a helpful post. I built a facebook page last week for a new design firm, Friends & Family, and (as you might guess) it won’t come up when I search the name. It is set up as a page rather than a place and I made sure all the permissions are open, and cycled through several pages of the search results but it won’t appear. We have about 100 likes and I know we’re a generic name but it when i type in Friends & Family and refine the search to “pages” it says there are no results whatsoever. if you too can’t find it, our url is facebook.com/friendsxfamily . Any ideas? Your help is so very appreciated!!

    • Hey Willa! Great to see you here!

I just searched for your page, unfortunately I can’t find it. If all of your settings are open, then the problem will be with the page name. Facebook often ignores symbols in a name, therefore when you type ‘friends & families’ into the search, it’s actually looking for ‘friends family’ – which has A LOT of results.

So it might not be that you aren’t showing up, but more you are just very low down the list – older pages will take priority over yours if it’s new (which yours is).

      So you have two options:

      1. Wait it out – I see you have quite a few likes already, so it shouldn’t take long for you to go up the list.
      2. Add a word to your page name (like Manhatton?) – This will give another term to help differentiate your page from the others.

I hope that helps! Sorry for the delay in the reply, the rush up to Christmas has been a little manic!

  • Marty

Hi Sam, Great job answering all those comments! I am having the same issue. I have a new facebook page and followed your instructions above, but my site Pcfixme doesnt come up in the search. Am i missing something or do I have to wait a little longer? (this is Pcfixme computer repair in USA not in Netherlands.)

    • Hey Marty! Thank you very much 🙂

With your page, double check all of the settings and make sure that there are no restrictions on the country or the age (the minimum is 13+ – so that’s ok). If they are all looking good, then it’s just a matter of time.

If you see Rosendudes comments below, his page took 24 days and 35 likes before he was able to see his page in the search. It is normally quicker than this, but I would expect to wait a good couple of weeks before you start to see it in the search results.

      I hope that helps!

  • Renae

My company Navigate Fitness isn’t showing up and I’ve done everything you recommended. Any tips???

    • HI Renae, thanks for commenting!

Sorry to hear you’re having problems with this. Could you send me a link to your page so I can have a look?

More often than not, this is due to a page being very new, if it was created in the page couple of weeks then you won’t be in the search results just yet – It can take up to a month before you start to show.

Also, double check your restrictions, make sure that you don’t have any country or age restrictions (minimum is 13+) as they will prevent you from appearing in the search.

Finally, make sure you build interaction on your page, most of the Facebook page functionality kicks in once you are over 30 likes, and have interaction on your page – As I can’t find your page I can’t check this out for you.

      Thanks again!

  • Hello, my name is Karla and the page I manage does not appear in facebook searches, this is driving me nuts! The name of the page is The North Face Panama… it only shows in the searches when you have liked the page, but not if you are just looking for it on the search box. Can you help me please!!!

    Thank you

  • Mel

I have created a Squishy Snak Pak Australia page on FB. There is also a Squishy Snak Pak Page of the business in Canada. Other than friends, people are finding it hard to find the FB page and no results come up on Google.
I am worried I have set it up wrong.
I have checked all my privacy settings (which has meant my personal settings seem to be Public also)
    Can you please help?
    Thanks Mel

    • Hey Mel. Sorry to hear your having problems with this.

As you said, I can only find the Canadian page, not yours. If all of your settings are public, then it is normally a matter of time. It can sometimes take up to a month before Facebook indexes the search results – which is very annoying!

I would suggest you continue to grow your page, send it to friends etc – I don’t know what your current like count is, but Facebook tends to kick in once you are over 30 likes.

If it doesn’t turn up soon, send me a link and I will see if I can spot anything else that could be the reason.

      Thanks for the comment Mel!

  • EZach

    Good afternoon,
I created a business page for our photography business Facebook.com/studio802ok & when I’m using this page & I go to another business page- & try to post or comment- my name & picture are blank?? I am not sure how to fix this! When I’m on the page my name is there & my profile picture is there. Any help you can give would be awesome! Thanks!

    • Hey EZach!

OK so if I’m understanding this correctly, your using Facebook as your page – so comments etc should use your page and not your personal profile. But your page’s avatar and page name isn’t being displayed.

I haven’t heard of this before, so I would think it’s a Facebook bug. Personally, I would carry on commenting even though the information isn’t displaying, but sign off each comment with your name (just in case).

There aren’t any settings you can modify to help with this, but try using a different web browser, so Chrome or Firefox.

Let me know how your getting on with this, sorry I can’t be more help.

  • Joseph

    Hi Sam!

Like many others on this thread, I have a Facebook Fan Page that is not showing up in Google/Bing/Etc. when searching directly for my business name (Barrett & Stokely or facebook.com/BarrettStokely). There are a handful of other pages that are appearing that have been set up by other people, but I am working to claim/merge those. The small twist to my problem is that my page was appearing prior to December 18, and I cannot figure out why my page has been removed from SERPs. I’ve run through my privacy settings, and there are no country/age restrictions. I coincidently signed my account up for EdgeRankChecker.com at this same time, but there is nothing else that I can figure that caused this issue.

I’m not sure if you’re still active on this thread, but I would really appreciate any advice you can give me.

    • Hey Joseph!

I’m sorry to hear your having trouble with this. It does seem very odd that Google has removed your page after it has been indexed. This could be due to a restriction being set at some point in the past – Facebook will block access to Google & other search engines if you have a restriction. So it could be that you had one previously and it just hasn’t picked up your website again.

If that’s not the case, I would suggest trying to drive traffic from outside Facebook to your page – not using the Facebook plugins / widgets / boxes / buttons. This way the search engine crawlers can follow those links and re-discover your page.

I’m sorry that I don’t have a more definitive answer for you.

  • DC

My company page (“Dipped Cars”) is only showing up after someone’s already liked the page. I have over 80 likes, have had it a couple weeks, etc. I’ve checked all the above things. I sent an email to Facebook and have been scouring the internet… I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. All the businesses selling the same product show up in the search, even ones with 2 likes or even only 1 like.

    • Hey DC, Great to see you here!

Can you send me a link to your page so I can take a look? Facebook search is a bit slow at picking up new pages, some people who have commented on here have had to wait for nearly a month before their page was shown in the search results.

It is worth double checking your restricitons, make sure nothing is set there – that’s the most common cause.

      Thanks for commenting!

I want to express my gratitude for the extensive work you have done over the past week. It was a pleasant feeling a lot of warmth and peace flowed through to me I believe. I felt immediately calmer when the you cast the magic spell and the feeling stayed with me through-out the next couple of weeks. I wish to convey that I have received my results this morning. I was shy to return th talisman to nature and I must tell you I could feel a pulse from it. Or a slow rhythmic juddering. A vibration even, to the extent I can hold it; and I feel the imprint of the vibration in my hand when I take it out again, as this is my first ever experience doing anything like this I feel the need to record every moment of it. I look forward to the next chapter in this my spell and help work.DR CHECKthank you indeed. templeoflove1@gmail.com

  • Hi, I have looked at everything you have said, my page comes up in MY search bar, but I went on a friends and it doesn’t show up no matter how far i scroll down.

The page is called ‘Improve Yourself’ with a display picture of black, bold writing saying ‘Improve Yourself’.
    This is the link.

I need as much publicity as possible to start the clothing brand I have ready.
However, my page is invisible unless I send a link, please help!

    • Hi Jacob! Thanks for commenting!

This is normally due to either, a restriction being set, or your page being new.

I see that you created your page on the 27th of January, some pages have been known to take up to a month to appear in search however I would expect yours to be there by now.

Double check your page settings to make sure that there are no restrictions being set, country should be left blank and the age should 13+, if they are anything other than that, you will not show up in the search results.

Beyond those settings, it’s normally just a case of continuing to post content and grow your page – Facebook is always playing catch up unfortunately.

You might be interested to know that a new Facebook search engine is in beta at the moment, so hopefully this delay will be fixed soon!

      Thanks again,

  • john

hi my name is john i made a band page on Facebook and i cant search for anyone or like any pages. i don’t even have a search bar to even try to type anyone in can you please help me!

    • Hey John,

Can you send me a link to the band page you created, this issue sounds pretty interesting (for me… for you it sounds like a pain!).

I’d be happy to take a look for you to see what’s going on and advise.

  • sanjay

hi my name is sanjay. there is some problam in my facebook account if i open my account This feature is not available on mobile yet is seen. i also open in pc also same thing there.

    • Hey Sanjay! Sorry to hear your having problems.

Are you able to get on Facebook at all? Or does it immediately appear with that message?
If you are able to get onto Facebook, is it only in the ‘my account’ settings that your seeing this?

This type of error is normally only a temporary error that Facebook will correct, however if it’s problems with your phone and your using the app, double check there aren’t any updates that have been released for it.

  • Angela

Hi, my name is angela. I have a problem with facebook page which is not mine. I meant that facebook page is named Shining Shop. I tried to search it, but it didnt appear. In fact 1 month ago, it did appear, I liked it also. However, I dnt know why it doesnt appear on my facebook anymore, even I tried to find in my Likes, it’s gone. Another thing, whenever they tagged or sent me a message, i got notificaton, but when I clicked on it, it didnt display, still back to my home.

I thought I was blocked from that page, but how come because i still could search and went through that page. So I thought it might from my page. I dont know how to solve it out. Would you mind to help me, please?

    Many thanks,

    • Hey Angela,
It sounds like the page – Shining Shop – have set a restriction If any restrictions are set then you won’t be able to click through to the page even though you have previous liked it. Restrictions could be on age or location.
      I hope that helps!

  • Deborah Main Designs

This has been really helpful! Two out of the 3 solutions I did go in and fix. But I still cannot see http://www.facebook.com/deborahmaindesigns on Google. It is ONLY showing Deborah Main. I want to lead them to our fan page and put it in our email signature line. but when I put that link in it it brings them to Deborah Main and NOT our fan page. I can’t figure out why??

    • Hey Deborah, thanks for commenting!

With Google, try submitting your page to the index using the Google submit page. Other than that, it really is a matter of linking to the page from outside of Facebook, that way Google can follow the links to your page and index it’s content.

I’m slightly confused about the error with the link, clicking the link sends me to your page – ‘Deborah Main Designs’. Are you expecting it to send people to a different location?

  • Sam,

You seem to be very helpful in the field of facebook and pages. I have read through the comment thread but cannot find exactly what I am looking for. As an employee, I have been setting up the company’s page, Montana Screen Printing & Embroidery. The problems I am having are being able to connect with others. When I am logged in to my account, I do not have the search bar at the top of the page, so I am unable to connect with other businesses in our area. Also, when I try to have customers, that have all ready “liked” our page, tag us in a photo, our business name does not come up. Is there any advice you have to help with this aspect?

  • Jess

Hello boss my name is Jess I have a page”Canada vich punjabi” . When my page fans trying to find my page in search engine they cannot find it…… Is there anything you can help me????

    • Hi Jess,
Sorry to hear your having problems. Can you send me a link to your page so I can take a look?

  • meher

How can i make my facebook page apppear top in search.

    no country resrtictn given.age 13+ given.have more than 75 likes.many photos uploaded.posts are put.

But places with similar name of my business pages coming up in fb search.wats the solution.

    • Hey Meher, Thanks for commenting!

The key to getting to the top of the search results is to build interaction on your page. If your page is active, posts content regularly and your fans regularly comment and like your posts, then you will see yourself go up the rankings.

      I hope that helps!

  • Sofia

    Hi Sam,

Thank you for a great guide and a great job in supporting all of us who are having a problem with getting our new Facebook Pages up in the search in Facebook. I have the same problem as the rest of us and tried the different steps in your guide, excluding claiming ownership of the page – since I don’t seem to find that text anywhere? I’ve looked both in the admin panel, under “Edit Page” and in the top corners. But this text is nowhere to be found. The page was launched 48 hours ago and already have 116 likes, so we should be over that critical point. Do you have any suggestion to what the problem could be, or do we just simply have to wait until Facebook includes it in the search result? the url to our page is http://www.facebook.com/oscarproperties

Thank you so much in advance!

    • Hi Sofia,

Good job on getting 116 likes so quickly!

You will only find the ‘do you own this page’ link if your page was set up as a place (which yours isn’t).

Unfortunately Facebook is extremely slow to index pages in its search results, some of the other commenters have reported their page taking up to 28 days before it appeared in the results – which is very frustrating!

Therefore the most likely cause is that they haven’t yet indexed your page. There are a couple of things for you to check in the privacy settings for the page: Make sure you don’t have any country or age restrictions otherwise you will never appear in the search results.

Keep promoting your page and building interactivity and you should appear in the results soon.

      Thanks for commenting!

  • Landi

    Hi Sam,
I have the same problem, created a musician page “Landi”
And after 30likes, no one finds my page when searching on facebook or google. No country is blocked and the “only admin can see the page” is not checked. Can you please help!?

    • Hi Landi! Great to see you here!

Unfortunately Facebook is extremely slow to index pages, if your page is under 28 days old then it is likely that Facebook just hasn’t picked up your page yet.

I would also recommend adding a term onto your page name – e.g. Landi Music as ‘Landi’ will also bring back results for anything containing the word ‘Landing’ – which will push your page down the search list unless you have more likes and interaction than them.

      I hope that helps!

  • Nikki

hi, I have a page called Karisa’s Kause and we are focused on providing people information on Adrenal Cortical Cancer….we are trying to make our page searchable using the worrds Adrenal Cancer, Adrenal cortical carcinoma or something related to the disease we are trying to spread awarness about, but it’s not showing in the serch bar on facebook, any way to do this? similar groups show up, but not ours.

    • Hi Nikki,

If your page is new then it won’t be in the search results just yet – they can take up to 28 days before they get indexed. But to appear in the search for other terms, you need to make sure you mention those therms within the ‘About’ section of your page. This section has less weight in the search results than a page title, but they do still have an effect.

      I hope that helps!

  • Geula

Hi…really hoping you can help! I created a FB page (Wheels 4 Rent) a few weeks ago, have 30 likes but for the life of me, I can’t get the page to show up in the FB search for non-friends??? I’ve tried all the settings and I’m still not able to get it – please help!! We are updating our website this week and need to have it working. Of course, I emailed FB and I doubt I’ll be getting any sort of reply.

    • Hi Geula,

I just did a quick search for your page name and came across this page – http://www.facebook.com/Wheels4Rent – Is that yours? If it is then you are coming up in the search results 🙂

If not, then it could be because your page is still relatively new, some pages can take up to 28 days to appear in the search results so you might need to be a little patient.

Make sure you have no restrictions set in your page settings and everything should go through fine.

      I hope that helps!

  • LuvYourMane

Hi, I just created a page under personal bogs called LuvYourMane and everytime anyone searches for it, it shows my personal page but not the page. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I’m the admin..

    • Hi LuvYourMane, It’s good to see you here!

With Facebook pages, it can take up to 28 days before your page starts to appear within the search results, normally it’s quicker than the full 28 days, but it should just be a matter of waiting for it to appear.

Make sure you don’t have any restrictions set on your page, otherwise you will never appear in the search results.

      I hope that helps!

  • Steven

hi i have a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/zhumusic it does not show up under being searched.

    • Hey Steven. Thanks for commenting!

The first thing you should check is your page permissions, do you have any restrictions set? (age or country) If you do, then you won’t appear in the search results.

When I search for your page, I’m presented with lots of pages that have an awful lot of likes (100,000+). You have two options (assuming your permissions are ok), the first is to add a word onto your page title, e.g. Zhu Music.

The second is to wait until Facebook launch their Graph search (due very soon). This will search through your title, username, and keywords in the description to display results, so make sure you enter ‘Zhu’ in each of those areas.

      I hope that helps!

  • planet claire

I hope you can help, because I can’t find any answers elsewhere! My problem is similar, but it is my fb business page EVENT that is not showing up in the search results…https://www.facebook.com/events/394561060634309/

    thank you!

    • Hey Planet Claire! Great to see you here.

This problem doesn’t normally occur with events – it’s normally a few days before they appear, but they are a lot quicker than pages (normally). My initial thought would be that it doesn’t like the quotation marks.

With search engines, the quotes mean “I want to search for this term exactly” – but then saying that, there is a result shown for an valentines event with a very similar name to yours.

Can I double check whether your event is public or ‘Friends of friends’? – I’m not certain on this, but it could work the same way as page restrictions – if any restriction is set, it won’t show in the search results.

I hope that gives you something to work with, let me know how you get on.

  • Hi. I am having an issue with my page on Facebook. I set up a page/place for Angilo’s Pizza – Burlington. I had to merge existing places so that we were able to check in. & check in’s went through and now it’s not showing as a place anymore. Only a page. I had set up a check in deal yesterday and the check in feature has not worked since. Please help! 🙂

    • Hi Kari! Great to see you here. It’s odd that it was working and now it’s not, this might be an extremely obvious question, but have you double checked your address is still entered? If it is, try removing it and re-entering it. If the checkin functionality was turned off, it should now give you the option to enable it again.
Let me know how you get on!

  • Mariangelís

    Hi Sam,

I start a new Fan Page Brasa’s Restaurant, its located in Hatillo, Puerto Rico. The thing is in the search doesn’t appear, unless a friend already like it. Instead appear a page that my boss started that we dont want it anymore because its a Places Page :O . If we delete the page in Places the Fan Page will Appear in the search ??? What can I do? Thank YOU 🙂 and I love u page! 🙂

    • Hey Mariangelís! Great to see you here!

A new page can often take a few weeks before it appears in the search results – Some of the commenters on this post have reported 28 days before their page appeared. So I’m afraid it’s just a matter of waiting it out.

Double check that you don’t have any restrictions set within your settings – you won’t appear in the search if there are.

I’m sorry I don’t have a quicker solution for you, but do let me know when your page shows up 🙂
      – Sam

      • Mariangelís

Sam, thanx for respond me so quickly 🙂 ! The page was already make when i took it to work it, but don’t haven’t anything (fans, comments, etc). I think it was already published. You think that will take the same time?

Thank you again and have a great week 🙂

        • Hm ok, I would recommend deleting the page in that case and starting again. Facebook will mark pages as inactive if they aren’t updated regularly, which means it will ignore you even if you start using it again. So if you are currently at 0 everything, remove the page and re-create it, this will let Facebook know you’re active.

You will still need to wait a couple of weeks before you show up in the search results – just make sure you have no restrictions set, and you are posting to the page regularly.

Let me know how you get on!

          • Mariangelís

            Hahahaa Thanks 🙂 I will !

  • Vladek Pavlowicz

    Hey there,
I’ve been struggling with the following issue for a week now.
I created a page facebook.com/airbalticocc, initially as a company under “company, organization or institution”. Then I created another page of a place to merge it with the main page so that it’s possible to check in, with the same exact title (except for the first letter – it is capital). Then claimed it right away. It’s been a week now and no answer from facebook yet, so theoretically I don’t own it. Then I changed the main page and turned it into a place hoping that it would solve the issue with checking-in. A couple days have gone by and it still doesn’t show up in the places when I try to check in. However, it does say “0 were here”. The other page that I made and claimed shows up as a place nearby. Both pages have the same exact addresses and it even states on my page that both of them have been merged. Any tips on how to make my main page show as a place for checking in will be really, really appreciated!

    Kind regards

    • Hi Vladek, Thanks for commenting.

Well so far you have done quite a bit of what I would recommend. Normally creating a place and merging that with your main page is enough to kick it into gear.

I’m afraid there isn’t a definite answer, however there are a couple more things to try:

      1. Sign into Facebook on a mobile and attempt to check-in, it will then give you the option to create a new place at your location – do that, then check into it. You will then need to merge that with your page.

      2. This ones a quicker solution but doesn’t always work – Go into your page’s settings and remove your location, it should then ask you if you want to turn off check-ins – click yes, then re-enter your location, it will ask you if you want to enable check-ins – click yes. This should ‘flush’ your settings but will take a day or two before you know if it’s worked or not.

The final thing is to check you have no restrictions set on your page, restrictions create all sorts of conflicts so best avoided unless absolutely necessary.

I’m sorry I don’t have an definite answer for you, however please let me know if these options worked for you.

  • Craig

Hi, I have just created a business page and when I made a post on other pages, no name came up to say who it was from. I therefore changed the name on my account. It now says my personal name but not my business one and doesn’t have a picture! Also I have the 2 names on my sidebar on the mobile app! How can I get rid of my personal name and just have the business name as I wanted in the first place! Please help

    • Hey Craig! Great to see you here!

It sounds as if your posting to your page as yourself – instead of your page.

Double check that at the very top of your page, it says ‘You are posting, commenting and liking as….’ followed by your page name, not your profile name.

The profile picture issue is sometimes caused by a ‘new’ page, so that normally fixes itself after a few days.

I hope that helps, let me know how you get on.

      • Craig

Hi Sam, sorry I’m new to this!! I can’t see anywhere where it says you are posting …….! Ect! I only have 1 listed admin person in the admin box, which is me, Do you know how I can delete this? If I add another admin as my business name, could I delete the one that’s my name?? It’s really bugging me know haha!

        • Hey Craig, the ‘you are posting as’ bit should be in the blue bar across the very top of your page. You can’t really delete yourself as the admin, as each page needs user profiles to be the admin – that doesn’t mean you have to post as your profile. Have you had any success since you posted this? (sorry for the delay on my reply).

  • Diana

Hi, My name is Diana and I took over a page ( that I believe is actually a place) called Well Being Yoga and Spa. We were not getting found through search engines and you can’t put in the url and be found like other business on FB. So I realized we had no user name and I used WellBeingHC and if put that link into a search engine it just goes to the FB login but does not show a shot of our page like other business. In the end I want our FB page/place to show up so you can login into FB and LIKE us. Seems simple but it won’t work. This place/page was established in 2009 does that have anything to do with why it isn’t searchable or showing up? Desperate to get this figured out. Tempted to start a new page and just start from scratch. We have 208 likes though and I’m not sure all would follow.

    • Hi Diana, sorry to hear your having problems!

It sounds like you have a restriction set within your page’s settings. If there are any country restrictions, or age restrictions then you won’t appear in the search results (be it Google or Facebook). That would also explain why people visiting your link (who aren’t logged in) can’t see your page.

Let me know if you don’t have a restriction set, and I will see if I can spot anything else that could be causing the problem for you.

      Thanks for the comment!

  • Toya

I have a problem. For some reason I dont even have a search option on my facebook page.I cant interact with nothing. The feature is missing and its been like this for about 2 days now.Iv tried 2 get a hold of the fb technical support and havent heard back. This is very fustrating.Do u think u can direct me 2 avenues as to getting this thing fixed?

    • Hi Toya, this is a bug that very occasionally crops up on Facebook, can you send me a link so I can take a look? Normally, this issue resolves it’s self after a couple of days. It also normally happens to brand new pages, so if yours is new and you don’t have too many likes yet, I’d suggest removing the page and starting again – a pain I know.

Let me know how you get on!

  • Lindsey

Hi – I know you’ve answered this question several times throughout the posts below, but I’ve tried all the answers and still it’s not working. I launched my business page on December 26, 2012 and it’s still not showing in search. It’s Memorial Health Center, An Aspirus Partner – https://www.facebook.com/MemorialHealthCenterAspirus.
Non-fans can’t find the page and I’ve tried everything I can think of. I’ve been messaging facebook weekly since it launched, checked settings, everything. Do you have any ideas?

    • Hi Lindsey! Great to see you here.

I’m happy to inform you that you are showing up the search results 🙂 – I typed in ‘Memorial Health Center, An Aspirus Partner’ and you were the first result.

I started deleting letters from left to right to see where you drop out the list, it seems you can get down too “Memorial Health Center, An ” (including the final space). This is because there are LOTS of memorial health centers, so you have a bit of competition there. It might be worth considering adding a place name at the start of your name to help narrow it down – “Medford Memorial Health Center” for example.

Alternatively, as your page grows you will go up the rankings, so if a name adjustment is off the cards then continue gowing likes and interaction and you will soon rank above the other pages.

      I hope that helped!

      • To add to this, searching for “An Aspirus” will also bring you up in the no.1 spot.

    hey this is tushar
i had a page bbps confessions
some jealous people have report abused it
till when can i expect my page to come back
it has already been 25 hours
and there was nothing unacceptable in the page

    • Hi Tushar,

A reported page will be taken down temporarily while Facebook investigate, unfortunately this investigation can take anything from a couple of days to a month. If you haven’t got your page back in that time, then Facebook would have deleted it as it didn’t comply with Facebook’s terms and conditions.

If your page had a small following, you could just create a new page and continue, if it was a larger one then I’d suggest waiting it out and sending a message when it’s back online.

      I hope that helps!

  • Lucy

Hello- I work for a parent organization that has several smaller organizations under its umbrella. Prior to my joining the organization, they made the policy that they would just have one Facebook page under the parent organization’s name. However, people that want to “like” the smaller organizations do not know to search for that name so we are missing out on potential fans. Is there any way to have Facebook searches for the smaller organizations’ names redirect fans to the parent organization?

    • Hey Lucy! Thats a good question! You can’t redirect other pages per sé, but you can appear in the search results for those names.

This will mainly take effect when Facebooks new ‘graph search’ rolls out to the masses, but you should be able to enter each of the locations names into the ‘about us’ section, this content should be pulled through to the search results.

However please be aware that the ‘other’ names won’t appear as high up the rankings as your main page title.

It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s better than nothing.

Let me know how you get on!

  • khuletz728

Hi sam, how can I covert my personal account to my existing fan page. They have the same name already. Please help me. So I can migrate all the friends I have there and make it fan on my page.

    • Hey Khuletz728, It’s great to see you here. Please see This Facebook Support document on how to convert your profile to a page.
Once it has been turned into a page, you can then merge that with your exisiting page.
Let me know how you get on!

  • Hi, I created a fan page for my new design studio, but I can’t add it as a job on my personal profile. And when I search for ir in the search bar, it shows 0 likes on the preview and the old avatar. Do I have to wait a couple of days so Facebook is able to index it? By the way, the fan page is facebook.com/estudioself.

  • Paris

Hi, my name is Paris and I have been trying to get my work’s Facebook page (Language and Speech) to appear in the search bar on Facebook. I followed the steps that were listed above but I don’t think it has helped. People who have liked the page can sometimes see it in the search bar or people are able to type in the link. https://www.facebook.com/languageandspeechQLD
It would be much more convenient for people to be able to use the search bar. Any help or advice would be fantastic!

    • Hi Paris! Thanks for commenting!

Assuming you have no restrictions set within your pages permissions settings, there are a couple of things that could be causing you the issue:

      1. Your page went through a long period with no updates – Facebook will mark pages as inactive and un-index them, unfortunately the only way around this is remove the page and start again – so I would leave this as a last option.

      2. The name of the page is very generic – Facebook will ignore the ‘and’ in the title, so it searches on ‘Location Speech’ which brings back A LOT of results. If your page has a location, I would suggest adding that onto the end of the page title, e.g. ‘Location and Speech Queensland’.

If neither of those options are appealing, I would continue to build your page and it’s activity and if your page hasn’t been marked as inactive, you will go up the ranks for ‘language speech’.

I’m sorry I don’t have a simple solution for you, but let me know how you get on.

  • Veronica Sitner

Hi, i created a page a few days ago and cannot find it when i do a search within facebook. I checked my permissions and everything seems fine. My page is veri chic cakes (username is verichiccakes). If i go to it from facebook.com/verichiccakes i can see the page but when you do a search within facebook nothing shows up. Please help! Thanks!!

    • Hey Veronica,
Great to see you here! You will be happy to know that your page is now showing in the search results. I typed in your page name and you came up as the no.1 result 🙂
      Have a great day!

  • Hi hoping you can help . I have set up a photography page under the name of Angela Collier Photography .

It is not showing in any fb searches ??The only people that can find my page are already fb friends of mine

One of my photos has over 350 views , so people are veiwing , but i think this is only through friends of mine on fb .

I have claimed my name http://www..facebook.com./AngelaCollierPhotography which i am getting printed on cards , but im very anxious as no one can access it through fb – only through google search .

Hoping you can advise asap ! Thank you

    • Hey Angela! Sorry to hear your having problems.

The issue here is that your page is still very new, Facebook can take up to 28 days before you start to appear in the search results for your page name.

However make sure that within your page settings, you don’t have any restrictions set; otherwise you will never appear in the search results.

Also, I notice you have a WordPress website which ranks for your name, but isn’t really used. Can I suggest that until you start to use the website, you create a new ‘Page’ that acts like a landing page and directs people to your Facebook page?

That way your still making use of your google search rankings, and promoting your Facebook page at the same time :).

You can make that page your homepage by going into the WordPress admin > settings > general and select the page name as the ‘Front page’.

I’m sorry that there isn’t a more immediate solution 🙁 but hope this gives you something to work with.

  • Dear Sam,

I’m so very happy to have found all of your great posts regarding how to manage life on Facebook!

A few days ago I tried to launch a FB page called Styrstad Keramik & Handelsbod. After having read your tips about how to turn your FB place into a FB page, I followed all the steps and since yesterday it should now be a FB page with the username http://www.facebook.com/styrstadkeramik.

My problem (like everyone else here!), is that I can’t find the page in the FB search, nor in the Bing Search Engine. I’ve really tried to follow all your tips and steps, so now I would kindly like to ask some questions:

    – does it matter that the website address (styrstadhandelsbod.se) differs from the username (facebook.com/styrstadkeramik)? Should I maybe re-name the username to facebook.com/styrstadhandelsbod?

    – how is it possible to find the event I created yesterday in the FB search, but not the actual page?

I’m very puzzled by all of this and maybe it all depends on that the page is still so new? In any case, I would be very, very grateful if you could give me some hints on how to proceed!

    Kind regards,

    • Hey Charlotte, it’s great to have you here!

The reason your page wasn’t showing in the search was because it was very new, Facebook takes a while to catch up with new pages.

However saying that, your page is now appearing as the top result for your page’s name 🙂 so your all set and ready to go!

Regarding the website address and your page address, these (fortunately) don’t interact with each other, so you could call your page something completely different. However from a users perspective, keeping your website link and social media links as similar as possible is always a good move.

I hope that helps! Thank you for the questions 🙂

  • aahaan butt

i cnt find my page why if i am serch i cnt why

    • Hey Aahaan, I’m afraid I’m going to need a little more information to be able to help. Can you send me a link to your page so I can take a look for you?

  • The oddest thing happened, my brand new was showing up directly, just fine! But then it disappeared from FB Search and then reappeared, just to disappear again. Now I can find it, but most people can’t, when they type in the direct name. I was posting like a maniac the first 24 hours, had the intention of getting every level of the game as a Facebook post before the “Likes” starts to roll in. Well… do I need to tell that I slowed down. Could my maniac posting have had something with the disappearing to do? http://www.facebook.com/PapaPearSagaHelpTricksTips?ref=hl

  • Polly

    Hi Sam,
Do you know whether registered trademarks at the end of a business name affect the searchability of the business page at all?
The business page is showing up after 2 ‘see more results clicks’ when logged on to a non-admin facebook account so it’s there but it has more likes than some of the business pages above yet it is showing up lower. The only thing that looks different is the registered trademark.
    Any ideas?
    Many Thanks,

    • I have discovered that any odd chars in a page name makes it harder to find and sometimes even impossible to tag elsewhere.

      • That is spot on, Facebook won’t pick up special characters, even speech marks! So they are best avoided when possible.

        Thanks Peetra!

    • Hey Polly, thanks for commenting.

Unfortunately Facebook won’t take trademarks into consideration. They don’t provide guidance on how the ranking works (like Google), however it appears to be age of the page + likes + regular interaction = high up on the list.

Therefore, if you continue to grow your page you should find yourself going up to the results.

      I hope that helps!

  • Alex

I just created a Page for the small local weekly newspaper where I’m a reporter. I invited all my friends and they can view the page but other people who aren’t my friends or friends of friends can’t find it when typing it in search. I don’t think it comes up on google either. Is it because I made the privacy settings such that nobody can comment or post anything, or is it just because the Page is so new that it’s not registering yet? The page is called The Beaches Leader; it has about 40 likes, a profile photo, cover photo and several other photos and posts. Can you help?

    • Hi Alex, Thanks for commenting!

Your page won’t be showing in the page just yet because it’s new. It can take up to 30 days before your page appears in the results (normally a lot quicker than that!).

Not allowing visitors to post shouldn’t affect it, however make sure you don’t have any country or age restrictions, as that will stop it from showing.

      I hope that helps!

  • Hi Sam, thanks for all this info in your article and for your great response to all your commenters!

I have set up, using a separate business email address, in the last 3 weeks, a Facebook business page which you can see at http://www.facebook.com/greystonesvet. The business name is Greystones Veterinary Hospital, Greystones & Florence Road Vets, Bray, as they have 2 practices.

We have linked it from the website (www.greystonesvet.ie) yesterday so it gets higher traffic. I can see it when I type it in alright and when I search for it as I have liked the page, but a lot of other people don’t see it in the Facebook search box when they look for it and try and like it. I read somewhere that Facebook business pages don’t show up in Facebook searches, is that true?

Can you help in any way thanks, we’d just love it to be searchable?

Also, I assume because the address is listing 2 premises that Facebook Places is not going to work. I wonder if there is a way to list the 2 practices under the one facebook business page?

thanks for any help you can give, Julian.

    • Hi Julian, great to see you here!

You may be happy to know your page is now showing in the search results 🙂 you are the top result when I type “Greystones Vet” (as well as the full name). The advice you heard was incorrect, business pages do show in the search results, which is evident by yours :).

Regarding the two places, the best option is to use the ‘About us’ section to enter both the addresses. This does mean that you can’t use it as a place (unless you only use one of the locations). But it will make your life a lot easier when it comes to keeping your page up to date and interractive.

Good luck with your page! Let me know if I can help with anything else.

      • Sam, thanks for your reply, that’s great to hear, and thanks for all of your advice on your site, it’s a fantastic resource, well done!

  • it wont let me click the TOP option? it’s stuck

Only show this page to viewers in these countries
Hide this page from viewers in these countries

    • Hi Annie-Body, That is correct, if the country field is left blank, then you won’t be able to select the top option (which is how it should be if you would like your page to appear in the search).

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
      – Sam

  • We are having the same problem sort of. We decide to delete our original Facebook page for our new business Garden Essentia as it was not setup correctly as a business page. Then we created a new Facebook page for Garden Essentia LLC which works and looks a lot better. For the first few days or so we could search within Facebook for Garden Essentia and both the old and new sites would come up. If we searched within Facebook for Garden Essentia LLC, the new site would come up. However, now after a week, the new site, Garden Essentia LLC can only be found maybe one out of 10 searches, even when directly searching on Garden Essentia LLC. The old site also occasionally appears about 1 out of 10 times.
I have checked all the settings on the page and see nothing different. How do we get the new page to appear in a Facebook search with either Garden Essentia, or Garden Essentia LLC?

    • Hi Timothy,

Just so you are aware, the term ‘Essentia’ will bring back results for ‘essential’ – Facebook’s search matching isn’t particularly good so you may be jumping up and down the list depending on what you are entering.

However if you send me a link to your page I’d be happy to take a look and see what I can find.

  • Nate the Handyman

https://www.facebook.com/natethehandyman how long does it typically take for a page to show. I see everyone is asking how to get it to show. but I know it will eventually. So does it take hours or days once the page is created.

    ~Nate The Handyman

    • Hi Nate! Great question!

Unfortunately the answer is weeks. Generally speaking you can expect your page to appear within 2 weeks, however I have seen cases that have taken up to a month.

As long as your settings are all open (no restrictions) it’s just a matter of waiting.

I hope your page appears soon!

      • Jay

HI, I am also having an issue with my FB page, it does not seem to show up in searches and the likes are not increasing although people are liking it. Any help would be appreciated.

        The page is https://www.facebook.com/EternalVapers

        • Hi Jay!

Sorry to hear you’re having troubles with this. I can’t actually access your page – this is normally due to a restriction being set. Double check your settings and make sure the country field is blank, and the age is 13+. Once you have adjusted those settings, you will need to wait about a week or two before Facebook picks up on the changes and indexes your page in the search.

I hope that helps! Let me know how you get on.

  • shel

My friend has started a page- but no one can see it when they search for it. She has done the country, age restrictions etc and also has over 25likes.

Why cant anyone search for her page?? i could only find it by clinking her link to page

SJP Hair,Face,Body is the name of page

    • Hi Shel! Sorry to hear your having problems with this.

If your settings are all open then it’s normally just a matter of waiting for Facebook to catch up. It can take up to 4 weeks before a page appears, however it is normally more like 2 weeks. How long ago was the page created? If it’s older than a month, then drop me a link and I will take a look 🙂

      I hope that helps!

  • Christina

Hi Sam!! So I was reading through the post on here and from what I gather…1- when you first make a page it can take several weeks to show up in the page search for facebook?? 2- It will need more likes to become searchable faster?? Please help?? The link I post can take people right to it but when searched…nothing. Here’s the link I was using…http://www.facebook.com/pages/Celebrate-Isaiah/359497254164383?ref=hl

    • Hi Christina. Great to see you here!

That is correct, it can take up to 4 weeks before it appears (normally quicker) and more interaction (not just likes) will increase the speed.

The most important thing is your page’s settings. you MUST have restrictions as open (age 13+ and nothing entered in the country field). Otherwise you will not appear in the search results no matter how long you wait.

      I hope that helps!

  • jay

Hi I to am having an issue with my Fb page, it does not show up in searches and likes are not increasing

    The page is https://www.facebook.com/EternalVapers

    any help would be appreciated

  • Hi,

I have the same problem. My page can’t find anyone. Please help me, I’ve done everything, but nobody can find it.. my page called “Madingi laikrodžiai.”

Can you send me a link to your page so I can take a look?

  • kleeo12

HI there! im so frustrated, I just started a fan page on 4/26/13, and as today-4/29/13, the page is still not showing up in the FB search bar. I have followed all of your steps and everything is set to puclic, but still nothing! HELLLPPP The only difference I can find is that in your step “Make sure the ‘Country restrictions’ box is empty” the picture shows that the “only show this page to viewers in these countries” is clicked….well by default and with no way of changing it, mine is clicked on “hide this page to viewers in these countries” Even though the box is empty! Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!!! The fan page is for Brooke Hummel

    • kleeo12

Do you have to have a certain # of likes before being able to be searched?

      • Nope you can be searched with just 1 like, however more likes and more interaction does speed up Facebook indexing your page.

Hope that helps, thanks for your comments!

    • Hi Kleeo12, sorry to hear you’re having trouble.

Your settings are correct, Facebook have switched which one is displayed by default – no idea why!

The issue isn’t with your settings, your page isn’t appearing in the search results because it’s so new. It typically takes Facebook 2 weeks to index a new page, however be aware it can take up to 4 weeks!

Building your page and it’s interaction can speed up the process, so as long as your settings are correct (which it sounds like they are) then it’s just a matter of waiting.

Sorry I don’t have a quicker solution for you!
      – Sam

      • kleeo12

ok!!! Wheew, I was about to delete the page out of pure frustration LOL thank you so much for the insight!!!! Now…we wait 🙂

        • That’s no problem, I’m glad I could help! I have hit that delete button a couple of times to later figure it out (that’s actually how this article came into existence!)

  • Eugene

HI, I am facing the problem of having my page being considered as a place. And my page does not show to the public when i told my friends to search for the page. Ukcool Automotive is the page. Is there a way for me to show it to the public as a page and not a place?

    • Hi Eugene! Great to see you here.

I have previously created an article that should help you change your place back into a page – http://www.stuffedweb.com/change-facebook-place-into-a-facebook-page/

With the search, have you double checked your settings to make sure everything is open, so age 13+ and country field left blank?

Also if your page is pretty new, you should be aware it can take up to 4 weeks before Facebook indexes it into the search results (assuming your settings are correct). It’s normally no more than 2 weeks, but there have been cases that have gone up to 4 so it’s a matter of being patient.

If it’s neither of those, drop me a link to your page and I will take a look.

      I hope that helps!

  • Hi, my page too isn’t showing on search results, although I’ve been through and corrected your advice . Maid of Cakes in Hyde, Tameside. Any tips?

    • Hi Gemma, Sorry to hear you’re having problems with FB search. If you could send me a link to your page, I’d be happy to take a look.

  • CTow

I started a community page called “Eat, Love, VEGAN” to document my family’s lifestyle and try to inspire others to convert to a vegan diet. I have tried absolutely everything mentioned in this post and all the comments, and nothing has changed. How do I get likes on my page if it wont show up in search?

    • CTow

After reading more comments, I am assuming I should just wait a little while longer for my page to be recognised by facebook? I just started it a day ago.

      • Hi CTow, Great to see you here. Yes you are correct, Facebook will typically take 2 weeks to index a page in their search box (sometimes up to 4 weeks!). Just make sure all your settings are open (no age country or age restriction) and you will be in the search results in no time!

  • Hi, I have created a page for superior heavy equipment J sdn bhd but it doesnt seem to appear on the search engine. I have checked all the settings and are correct and i don’t know what is wrong. and each time i search, more pages of same name appears. How do i make the page appears in the search engine? and is it possible to change from a place to a page if my page is wrongly categorised? Thanks

    • Hey! With Pages, it typically takes 2 – 4 weeks before Facebook indexes the page. So if it’s newly created, it’s just a matter of waiting for Facebook to catch up.

With converting your page, yes this is certainly possible, and I have an article that can help you 🙂 – http://www.stuffedweb.com/change-facebook-place-into-a-facebook-page/

I hope that helps, and let me know how you get on!

  • Hi guys, I want my facebook page to show my opening hours for business, how do I do it?? I have edited and added them to the info but they just wont show in the about box?? http://www.facebook.com/colonialcandlez

    • Hey Melissa, just checked your page and it looks like you figured it out :). If there is anything else I can help with then do let me know!
      – Sam

      • I still don’t know how I did it. I found someone had checked into a place (my place) that was a duplicate of my page (but as a place) so I followed your instructions to claim the place as my page and then merged the 2. Other than that I didn’t change anything.

        • Hm that’s odd. It’s likely the merging caused the page category to change, some categories have the opening hours option when editing the ‘about us’ section. So could have just pulled in the times with the merge. Glad it’s working though!

  • Beautification

I just tried creating a page for our city committee called “Berkley Beautification Advisory Committee” but I can’t find it in search. I tried the above steps even made sure to verify it via text message. Any suggestions?

    • Hi! Sorry to hear you’re having problems with this.

You won’t be showing in the search just yet as your page is very new. It typically takes Facebook 2 weeks before a page is indexed (can be up to 4 week). So providing you have no restrictions set, it’s just a matter of waiting.

      I hope that helps!

  • Chess

Hi Sam, do you know if this problem has been solved in FB? I have tried all of your suggestion, but our page “metaphors designs” is still not showing to anyone but admins… Thanks.

    • Hi Chess! It’s not really a Facebook problem, it’s more… Facebook is very slow… and no they haven’t picked up any speed yet. If it’s a new page, Facebook will typically take appoximately 2 weeks before you will see your page in the search results (this can sometimes go up to 4 weeks!), so it’s a matter of being patient.

If it’s an existing / older page, double check your settings to make sure you don’t have any restrictions set (so no countries entered, and age is 13+).

If it’s neither of those, send me a link and I’d be happy to look 🙂

      Hope that helps!

  • laverne day

my face book page is stating wrong Laverne day

    • Hi, Great to see you here!

I’m not too sure what you mean, could you let me know a little more information on the problem so I can try to replicate it? A link to your page would also be extremely useful.

  • Alejoviade

I have read (I think all or at least most) of the posts out there regarding the problem of Pages vs Places…. still I have a problem (and I have done everything that has been suggested)

I have a personal facebook page and later created a business page for my photography business.
When on my personal page I can type its name in the search space at the top of the page and my newly created page shows right away and as a page !! (good so far)… That means it is indeed a page right ? well, then I try to update my personal information edit my workplace (adding it) and select my newly created page as a place of work…. well, now when I type its name in the space allowed for it…my page doesn’t show up …(?) So, I know it is a page as I searched for it and shows as such….but when I try to use it as a place of work this page fails to show up…??? Any ideas???

    Thank you

  • Pinky

    Hi Sam,

Thanks for your patience to explain to us even the questions seems to be asking repeatly. I have created a page for my restaurant and this is the link – https://www.facebook.com/pages/Black-Market-at-St-Mary-Residence-KL/456009981154835. I tried to check in the place but can’t find it when searching from the mobile.

Instead, the other place with the same name shown up (that added manually by my customer to check in as a “place” a day ago before I created the page). This is the link – https://www.facebook.com/pages/Black-Market-at-St-Mary-Residence-KL/520468397988866?fref=ts.

I tried to claim the place but can’t see the “this is my business” link in the setting but just “do you know the page owner” appeared. I type in my email and they did send me a email link but that direct me to the same page only. I still can’t find the option “this is my business” too. Please help.

    • Hi Pinky, great to see you here!
OK you need to get a few people to fill in the “do you know the owner” with your details – so ask your family. This link seems to work after about 10 attempts, which is very annoying but will eventually give you the admin privileges you are after. Once you get admin access, you can merge your two pages together and checkins should then work as expected.

I hope that helps! Let me know how you get on.

  • Trotter & Patel

Hey, Sam – we opened our practice last month (Trotter & Patel Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics), but the Facebook page is not searchable (within FB nor Google), but our website and Pinterest accounts are…any help?

    • Hey! Congratulations on opening your practice! Facebook pages typically take about 2 weeks display in the search results, just make sure you don’t have any restrictions. With Google, it will take quite considerably longer. Google doesn’t crawl Facebook pages that often (as the site is HUGE) but if you link to the page from other websites (such as your practices website) then it will speed up the process.

      I hope that helps!

  • Amanda

Thank you SO MUCH for this! I’d been getting complaints that people couldn’t find out page (World of Music in Erie, PA), and thought maybe our only option was to stress the vanity URL. We were listed as a place, and I think changing from “local business” to “company” might have solved the problem – I’m asking around for people to test it. I know you wrote this a while ago but I just had to say thanks, and hopefully you’ll see this!

    • Hi Amanda, Thank you very much for letting me know. I’m always pleased to hear these changes are working out for people. So thank you 🙂

    Hi Sam,
I created my facebook page on 25th October 2012, however I only published the page on the 11th May 2013. Currently my page has 110 likes, but like a lot of people, when you search for my page, it can’t be found. Could this be becuse I only published the page a few weeks ago?

I’ve tried all other suggestions, but nothing has worked. My page is: https://www.facebook.com/CandiedAffair
Any suggestions as to how to fix this?
    Thank you!

    • Hi Crissy, yes that is correct. Facebook will pretend the page doesn’t exist until you publish it, so the effective start date will be the one from a couple of weeks ago. Just make sure you don’t have any restrictions set and you should be appearing in the results soon!

      Thanks for the comment,

Worked all weekend to get a Like page set up for my vaca.rental house, and when FB gets to step 4, (I believe it says increase your viewers, FB freezes up and I get a blank page. Tried about 4 varying Page names, and finally got one to go through, but now when you search the words, all these pages pop up, that are actually still in set-up and since its stuck in set-up I can’t unpublish those other pages. Any ideas? thanks,

Hi. Sam. My problem is slightly different. I changed the name of my page and obtained a new user name (KALTY Designs). I show up in a google search, however the link is still to my old username. When you click on it, it says the page is broken. I cannot seem to find how to fix this. It was only changed yesterday. Any thoughts?

My page (http://www.facebook.com/mywonderbooth) isn’t showing up when I try to “check in” or when I try to list it on my profile under the “employment” section. It does show up properly in a search. There is an old defunct page (I’ve requested fb delete it several times; it’s still showing up even after I deleted it) that is showing up when I try to list it as an employer, however that one does not show up under check ins. I’d really like people to be able to “check in” to my business, as well as have it listed in my profile as my employer. I did some of the changes you mentioned (making sure it’s a “page” and not a “place” and is globally viewable) and I’m not sure if those changes will take time to propagate or if I need to do something else… any help is appreciated.

Hello! I have tried everything I feel like. I just started a facebook for/under Saybrook Fish House. now I started this about a month ago before I realized that there was already a facebook page for this name already. so I added Rocky Hill at the end of it to make it Saybrook Fish House Rocky Hill. I was able to find the facebook before when it was the other name but since I changed the name I cant find it. i made sure it wasn’t a place, that it was viewable to the public, and i tried creating a new one and merging but it wouldn’t work. i cant search it or find it through the search engine. i have tried everything and its getting really frustrating. please help so i cant get some promotions up and running. Thanks

  • Hi, the facebook search feature when searching for pages, searches only the page name, not the description.

What if I have a page named after my brand, but that does not include the main topic of the page, “software” for example. In that case facebook would not show the page when searching for “software”.

Any idea how to fix this ?

    Please, Can u help me?

I can´t find my page on search result just typing some part of the total name that is “Igreja Organica Simples”.

If I type on the bar seach of facebook “Igreja Organica” or “Igreja Simples” my page doesn´t show, but others pages like “Igreja Oganica Brasil” appear and It has the name “Brasil”. Why Does it occur If my page have the same part of the name of the others pages that is “Igreja Organica”?

    Other problem:

    1) On Seach results by “Igreja Orgânica” I´m listed below of pages with less likes than mine page. My page have 60 likes and I´m below of this pages: “Igreja Orgânica de Timbó” with 31 likes and “Igreja Orgânica Portugal” with 26 likes. why?

    2) After I wrote a Note I tagged my page with this tag “Igreja organica Simples” and I cannot save this Note because occur this error: “The content you requested cannot be displayed right now. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may have expired, or you may not have permission to view this page.”. Why?

    3) If I try to find my page using the button Find all pages named “igreja organica” it doesn´t list my page on search result. Why Does it occur if others pages are on list just by having this words “igreja organica” in some part of its names?

I created a business facebook page over a year ago which isn’t showing in any browser search. I’ve checked all settings, do regular postings, have the link on our webpage, etc. It does show in the facebook search just not in a browser search. What would be stopping the page from being indexed?

    • Hi Steve,
Do you have a link to the page? If you sign out of Facebook then go directly to your page, if you can see the page and its posts, then your settings are correct. If you get asked to log in before you can see any content, then double check you don’t have ANY restrictions set.
      Hope that helps,

If we were banned we would have been informed. We wouldn’t be able to access the page?

  • Hi there.

Having a bit of a dilemma with our School page, which is annoying as it is our main point of contact.

Our page name is Auckland Grammar School and we couldn’t be found in Facebook search by typing our page name in the search bar.

We soon found that with our vanity url of facebook.com/GrammarZone, that we would appear only when we typed GrammarZone into the search bar.

After changing the vanity url to facebook.com/aucklandgrammarschool, the search bar, even after two weeks will only show us in searches if we type GrammarZone. Typing Auckland Grammar School does not show our page.

Would really appreciate your help as we at our wits end.

On all these solutions, you have to be LOGGED IN. But if I can’t get to my page how am I suppose to do the rest?? When I type In the user name or phone number then “Go”, it just erases what I put and goes back to saying type in user name, full name or number. It doesn’t even say can’t find. Or Info incorrect…it just goes back to a blank bar asking for info I’ve already entered.
